Thanks. I'm not ignorant of modern game conventions, but I was wary of buying a game to see if it had a music slider. It's uncommon, but I do come across the occasional game which won't let you map keys or other things we take for granted...like be able to adjust game and music volume seperately. :)
I'm not saying it's not valid music, and I'm sure for a fan of the style you could write a long treatease about how original those songs are (just checked them on youtube), but to me, it's just one more iteration of the music I heard in ever FF, every fighting game, and most console games I've watched others play for decades.
I do have the music enabled in all my other games, and enjoy the wester style orchestral stuff like in Total War games (and yes...the witcher games). It's a matter of taste; I wouldn't expect the average listener to enjoy Celtic Frost, Sunn ))), Rasputina, or any of the other less mainstream stuff I listen to.

You said yourself you dont like japanese style games (and Im with you here to a lesser extend).
Then this game is definitely not for you. Its not as bad as some other JRPGs but its still a JRPG, with boring combat, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ camera work and all that good stuff.
If you dont even want to listen to the music, just skip this.
Talk about flying into space and not wanting to turn around to have a good hard look at Earth.
I might want to try watching Inception with no music too.
... I'll show myself out...
The original NieR is set in the most bland looking fantasy world until you come to realise it's actually post-apocalyptic and at the start of the birth of a new civilization, and the music becomes more and more industrial-inspired as you go on. If you won't give it a chance then this game really isn't for you.
I know it sounds like a minor issue but the music really is integral to the whole experience of NieR.
I like orchestral music, I have relatives who make a living performing with an orchestra. What I don't like is the specific genre of what to me, is overly-dramatic, bombastic jrpg music, interwoven with chorus, usually in Japanese. I'm not saying it's not good by any objective standard, but only for my own personal tastes. I bring up Sunn 0))) because I have plenty of discussions with folks about whether it even classifies as music...just because there is some disagreement does not mean I think their values are suspect, and after they've listened to one or two pieces and they still don't like it, I respect their opinion and move on.
I'm nearly 50; I've had 30+ years of listening to this genre, as a player and then as my kids played them. I think I've given it a fair shake. :)
I do hear where you're coming from though, because there have been games where music has been as important a component of the game as it is in many Japanese gemes (Transistor being the best example that comes to mind). I appreciate your position and that your response is not as kneejerk as others'.
in a japanese game.....
that you say you don't like that type of game anyway......
This is a troll post right?
I had heard this game was more thematically consistant than the average FF, MGS, RE, etc...and obviously has good enough reviews that I was curious about it even though it's not my cup of tea. Are you really surprised there are people out there who have different tastes who may want to dip a toe in, but aren't intrested in jumping in the deep end?
I answer posts about this often for the games I usually play, for people who don't play what I normally do. I try to be helpful, maybe a light hearted dig if I don't think they'll take offense, but if I can encourage someone to take a risk if I htink they'll enjoy it, I will. If I think it's not for them, I'll be honest. That's just being neighborly. If you think I'm trolling, you should try reading my previous replies instead of going right for the post button; I thought it was pretty clear (hint: Not trolling).
