Personally I never buy games on release day because I do not know any problems it might run into. I usually wait a while when others make reviews on the issues, system ports things like that.
Nier is not a hard game but you can make it really hard
Playthrough B with 9S you just play through the whole game again, without any sidequests, you solved before.
Playthrough C is different, the parts where you play the revenge rampage of 9S are just 3 very small dungeons. You get small cutscenes before bosses, that explain those bosses motivation. But unfortunately those scenes have nothing to do with the main story. You are not really enriched by seeing them. The end game in all playthroughs explains more about the game world.
Everything after ending A is very disappointing. The author of the story focuses too much on tragedy. Are you sad yet. He kills off everyone you get to know in the game. Literally everyone.
It is a good game. The combat is too easy if you use ranged combat. On normal difficulty it is braindead easy if your character is overleveld. Nier is hurt by the RPG mechanics, it would have been a much better pure action game i think. If your level is slightly higher then your enemies they do not hurt you at all anymore but still give a ton of xp and loot. Balance problem on normal. On hard the game is okay. If you use ranged combat it is still too easy. Very hard is insane: Everything can kill you in one hit.
The combat is fast and fun though.
The open world is rather small and focused. Not bad in my book. There are no collectibles in the world.
The quests are quite variet and not all Fetch A bring to B. All Quests are interesting, the tragedy part is very strong in the quest story too.
I think you would get more quantity in Final Fantasy 15, then in Nier.
Nier is a fantastic ride, even with the flaws i mentioned. Both are good i suppose?
Have fun.
But that's moot. I won't buy Nier:A because the slimey devs can't be bothered to patch the game. I can't imagine FFXV will get patches it'll need. Not a company I want to throw money at.
I own many games and I'm patient - if I ever buy either it'll be when they're on sale for $10 or less.
