Is it possible to ignore sidequests?
I ask because running from one marker on the map to the next is so damn boring, there's no fast travel as far as I know and the sidequests are rarely interesting enough for me to tolerate the commute. But since they're the best way to level up, can I just stick to main quest and not fall too far behind?

I actually enjoy the main questline, but the side content just makes my eyes glaze and wish for a faster way of traveling.

Leave all of the sidequests until after you unlock the ability to fast travel from one access point to the next. This is given to you after you fight Adam and Eve in the alien mothership's control center .

I recommend doing the sidequests, as many of them add to the character development of 2B and 9S. Some of them even tie into the overarching story in surprisingly huge ways. And there are even some side quests that will *slightly* change the events that occur within the main story. They may be a bit dull mechanically, but everything else about them, in my opinion, is necessary to get the full experience of the game/story/characters.
So I will later unlock a fast-travel option? At that point I might do them, but at this point having to run from the robot village to desert and back almost had me fall asleep. And when Jean Pierre told me to run back to desert again, I knew that was a sidequest I'd not finish without fast-travel.

I'll just stick to main quest until fast-travel is unlocked. Still don't get why they'd not unlock that from the start, but at least it's there.
Yeah, just leave it until then. You can bang them out pretty easily once you're able to warp across the map.

You can leave it behind and read about them on the forum or wiki.
There are only few "keyquests" explain something important or interesting.

Others are garbage in general and uterly boring wich may lead to game quitting.

Some of them are a waste of time, and don't really add anything other than useful item rewards (like the dumb speed star quest). But I would say at least 60 percent of them tie into the story and characters, and at the very least, help to flesh out the world; to give you a much better understanding of how the machines and androids live their lives, assuming you care about such things. But since they're such a big part of the story, I feel like caring about them helps boost the main story up even further.

I've played through the game and its three routes three separate times now, and I've never once felt I could skip the sidequests, because of how much I feel they add storywise and lorewise.

That may just be me though.

Largest part of the problem was having to run long distances between them when the travel is not really engaging like in some open world games. It took me good 3-5 minutes to even get to the place where I was supposed to go, then another 3-5 to run back.

But now I was told I unlock a fast-travel later so that takes out the biggest issue. I'll give them another go after that.
