I recommend doing the sidequests, as many of them add to the character development of 2B and 9S. Some of them even tie into the overarching story in surprisingly huge ways. And there are even some side quests that will *slightly* change the events that occur within the main story. They may be a bit dull mechanically, but everything else about them, in my opinion, is necessary to get the full experience of the game/story/characters.
I'll just stick to main quest until fast-travel is unlocked. Still don't get why they'd not unlock that from the start, but at least it's there.
There are only few "keyquests" explain something important or interesting.
Others are garbage in general and uterly boring wich may lead to game quitting.
I've played through the game and its three routes three separate times now, and I've never once felt I could skip the sidequests, because of how much I feel they add storywise and lorewise.
That may just be me though.
Largest part of the problem was having to run long distances between them when the travel is not really engaging like in some open world games. It took me good 3-5 minutes to even get to the place where I was supposed to go, then another 3-5 to run back.
But now I was told I unlock a fast-travel later so that takes out the biggest issue. I'll give them another go after that.
