how to use a gamepad?

i connected one but the game only accepts keyboard input. what did i miss?

it's a xbox 360 gamepad if that matters.

Open steam big picture mode. Go to controller settings and check the xbox configuration option. Launch game via big picture mode.

now everything works except moving my ship. shooting works, browsing inside the menu of the game also works ;(
i don't see what could be causing this.
moving around with wsad works fine.

i can't move with the gamepad, the game tells me to press / to shoot but that's not a key on my keyboard i can use without pressing shift as well (i guess they assume i use an english layout)
so i have go try which button does what, die, and go through the intro sequence a dozen times?

how did this mess make it past testing?

i don't know. it looks like an xbox 360 controller, fells like one, windows detects it as one and it has no problem in any other application so far. but apparently, it's not 360 enough.

You have to be using a controller with x-input. HOWEVER there is a mod you can download that allows non x-input controllers to work. It's called x360ce. Look it up.

Nowdays all PC controllers are XInput does not matter if XBox original or Logitech or other companies.

PS4 dual shock uses D Input. But on Steam it works perfectly! As Steam has built in drivers for all kinds controllers.

Did not know that actually. I thought it was just X-Box controllers that have X-Input. TY for clarifying it.
