Why is this game so sexualized with art and merchandise?

When I first looked at this game, most search results show sexy PS4 covers, body pillows, and booty mouse pads (why?!). But looking at the game itself the fanservice is barely there. I know the initial impression the community game me turned me off, (kinda like Soul Caliber, I might buy 6 though).

I plan on getting this on PS4 pro ( 1. My current computer can't run it. 2. The port sounds bad.) But I'm curious to hear how this game got such a reputation for fanservice, and do you think it turned off people who would have loved it.

No, I'm pretty sure my previous posts made it clear that I'm okay with sex as long as it doesn't feel pointless. I'm a girl so I don't have a problem with my own gender.

I just asked cause when you search for this game PS4 console covers and third party merch seems to mostly of 2B's behind and delicious thighs. I still plan on saving up and getting the game when it goes on sale digitally on PS4 due to me running out of current shelf space.

And yes, I think many people are put off by the character design and how some stuff is presented (like self-destruct or ladder panty shots). It is a bit sad. But it fits the game's story so perfectly and I'm just glad yoko taro was able to do it his way.

There are also a lot of patreon cosplayers who ruined and overused 2B (I bet they didnt even played/finish the game)

We lived in an era where everything is mote noticed and praised as well, even nicho underrated games so the merch and lewd stuff is big.

Just to let you know the true fans don't love nier because it got sexy characters. The gameplay and story are amazing. I loved nier 1 and it wasn't sexual.

Like others have said it's Japanese culture. The rest of us didn't ask for it. Lot of rpg nowadays are turn off because they incorporate thier fad culture other people don't like or don't get. That is one of the big reason for poor rpg sales.

I thank everyone for replies, and I'm surprised this topic is still getting people answering it.

I made this topic just cause I found it kinda funny the dissonance between the official promotions, and the fan merchandise. Its a little better on Amazon and most image sites now, but it used to be nothing but legs and thighs like it was a Church's menu.


I don't mind fanservice, its just a little annoying when most images and videos are about it. Like most things in life moderation is key.
