Yes, I think it turned some people off...but that's why you should always separate a product to its community. Can it be nice to be part of a community, have people to talk to and that share your interests? Sure. But be careful to not use it as an echo chamber, or at least be conscious of it, and stay respectful to criticism (at least that's what I'm trying to do, not telling it's always easy or that I'm always successful, sadly)
Japan can pull it off half the time with fanservice done right, but then you get characters like Ivy from Soul Caliber. Most characters are dressed reasonably, and then in the recent E3 they show her and its like "Why can she dress like sensible person? The ninja lady makes more sense than you!"
That sums it up, unfortunately. The sad part is that increasing numbers of people playing games only have eyes for high-res textures and fluid animations (motion capture ftw).
I enjoyed that Platinum Games designed Nier:Automata's characters the way they did, they constantly balanced on the line but never crossed it, neither with 9S, nor with 2B and A2. Compared with one of their other highly-praised games, Bayonetta, in which they crossed my personal line for sexualization in video games, Nier:Automata is pretty tame in these terms. Apart from this, Nier:Automata has all the rights to claim its nominations, except for the fact that it is horribly programmed. THIS is a point one should be concerned about because it hinders one from actually trying out the game and come to their own conclusion on its content.
I had another paragraph comparing Nier:Automata to another, major game released in 2017 coming in but unfortunately I lost my track halfway thorugh it, maybe I will continue later.
I mean for example my Mom gets Bayonetta's design, but not Ivy Valentine. I find it kind of weird that the ps4 butt decals are higher up the list on Amazon than the game. I like sexy stuff, just not when it eclipses the game or character.
As for porn, people did that in whole history, the internet just made it easier to see. So don´t want to see porn, move on.
I'm not sure what you mean by SF; I'm assuming Cammy? I'm used to her outfit, she's had it since her debut so I'm used to it. Soul Caliber I'm assuming Ivy is the one sticks out.
I don't mind the rule 34 for the game, I just wondered why in any search result the unofficial fan stuff shows up higher than the game or official items. Heck, where do you even buy the official stuff, cause I'd actually love to support the series.
