This is why 2B and others wear blindfold
There's no official word from Developers that they are visors. Are we forgetting that 2B and the rest are cyborgs and not humans? Their visors are built into their robotic eyes. Lets not forget. That blindfold is made of fabric so no way it's a visor and without it, they might not fight as aggressive as having them on. If you think about it for a minute... some people in this world fight with their eyes shut. It helps them fully focus on putting out all their might without any hesitation in throwing out all the punches. It sounds foolish to do this, but it works for some in knocking out the other person with a few blows (if you watch enough UFC you know what I'm talking about).

We all can only speculate, but to me I think 2B has Jiu Jitsu skills at level 1 (highest). They can fight without seeing. More on Jiu Jitsu can be found here....

This is the kind of stuff you hear about in Japan, and it would make sense that Platinum and the Developers intentionally did this to their characters. It left many gamers wondering why would cyborgs need to be blindfolded. That's because they're so good that they don't need to see and can use their sense on locating where their target is. It allows them to slice through metal objects carelessly with full force.

Do you guys agree?

Symbolism, symbolism everywhere!)

You substitute game by your own fantasies. ;)

(don't know if it's somewhere else, but it's in the World of Nier:Automata book,

From my personal point of view any info outside game itself (for any game / book / movie) is a white noise. I have seen many times how ppl changed or maded up storyes they have told earlier. So, born piece of art lives by itself and can't be "updted".

Could you elaborate? I don't understand what you're trying to say.

He's basically saying that any info in the game outside of the game is not canon, and thus "fantasy", even though it actually is.

and to make matters worse, we all know the whole stuff been reset to the point where game begins multiple times.
this in it self can cause detoriation of time
what also causes inconsistensis in both technology and content information.
due to factor of time change.
and some technology that has developed and is implemented.
but the pods did not remove/alter that due to their own choice of change.
since to be honest when we start we dont know if its loop 500 or 50+ million.
all we know its progressing without being recorded.
just that the pods reset and try to reassamble the stuff over and over.

and its never stated that they reassamble it to the first state.
just that the reassamble what was lost even if compromised.

what makes it plauseble to have technology that is no where recorded. and lots of info missing due to multiple development processes allready happend to begin with.

He, I bet Yoko Taro is laughing out loud at the concept of Drakengard/Nier canon.

then why at the end 9S takes out his blindfold?
Cyfarwydd 9 FEB 2020 a las 22:10
someone told me about it before. the blindflods may means some kinds of pressure. to control the YorHa forces emotion. when 2B take the blindflods off, also means her emotion's explode
Kimarnic 10 FEB 2020 a las 0:08
Isn't it to hide the truth? Thats why A2 doesn't have it and they want her dead, and why 9S ends up cutting it, after he knows the truth.
The visors are large for their purpose, the player gets a hud all the same without wearing one (there's points in the story where that happens) and there's androids that work without the visor such as A2. So the visor clearly is not mandatory for an android to function, see or even receive transmissions.

They could also just close their eyes while fighting so it isn't there to block vision either. Furthermore, a fighter that can see has a very big advantage over a fighter that can't. I don't know what's in that fantasy jiu jitsu link and I don't particularly care. As someone who has practiced jiu jitsu and who has investigated martial arts as a whole to a certain extend. I can guarantee you that seeing your opponent, especially when he's competent, is a must. Zoning in fightinggames is a thing that also happens in boxing matches and also a thing that you will see among competent street fighters.

The reason for the 'visor' is probably much simpler: emotions are strictly prohibited. These androids were made to follow certain programming, but were also made in a way to break such programming. This is why while the resistance base you work from has pretty consistently immobile, not maturing, androids with no visible story arcs, while 2B, 9S, A2 and a whole bunch of other YoRHa units are consistently breaking their assigned rules and doing things beyond of what they were programmed to do. Part in these feats of wonder is the emotional drive that these YoRHa units have. You can see with all of these androids that they have experienced, or are experiencing, emotional discomfort about the situation around them. A2 therefore is always grumpy and snobby, 9S goes completely berserk after seeing 2B killed and 2B goes berserk when seeing 9S in serious pain.

So in the end, the visor symbolizes the hypocrisy of being mandated to follow the rules, while not following the rules can actually lead to unlocking greater potential for good or for worse.

The blindfold sure makes 2B look delicious :D - 500 shades of grey ....

I always tought it was a mechanism to contain emphaty of androids for each other, since it's easier for emphaty to work if you can see someone full face. Oh well, my interpretation was wrong.
Patty 27 FEB 2020 a las 11:16
Does it ever explain why they need to dress the way they do? I would like it more if they always wore the armour.
myhr2 27 FEB 2020 a las 14:11
No, it remains open to interpretation.

!BEWARE SPOILERS!

2b, 9s, and all yorha androids are required to wear their blindfolds (aka visors) or their masks (the ones that all of the operators wear).

it also serves as a metaphor, meaning that those who wear blindfolds (aka visors) are blind to the truth. those who have masks know the truth, but cannot speak it.

as you know, the commander does not have to wear either one. it basically means that she can speak the truth and see it. she is fully aware of what happens, what project yorha is, etc.

i haven’t been able to find out if she was completely aware of the red girls or not, but from playing the game alone, it doesn’t seem like she was entirely aware of them. (i don’t include the anime because it differs from the original game)

i hope that makes sense!
