My save is gone...?

My save just gone for no reason? Opened up today, the game just reset by itself. Graphic setting too, and most importantly, my save is gone...

Are the physical files gone aswell?

C:\Users\YourLoginName\Documents\my games\NieR_Automata

If so.. then no idea why. Well I could have an idea but I can't ask you that. >_>


Also, you could try searching for the files on your computer if they're gone from that location. They shouldn't have moved but in case you can't find them through a search then they're 100% gone.

Win-key+S, search for "SlotData_0.dat"

Yes, I can find my physical save file in C:\Users\Documents\My Games\NieR_Automata

Then your save should be fine unless it for some reason overwrote the previous one, checked on Google if anyone else had the same issue?

Have you played through the last ending and read everything afterwards? Maybe it was your own fault that you save is gone..

I am still on my 1st playthrough, the save, the option to select continue is gone and setting gone too, it went back to windowed.

It's a known but somewhat uncommon bug, that they still haven't patched. Then again, they haven't patched the game at all, so.

You're not the first person to report this. Worst case is that the save file itself is corrupted somehow. I would make a copy of your SlotData_0 file and then try things like verifying game cache, uninstall/reinstall and copy the save file back into the folder, etc. If that doesn't work then your save is probably dead unfortunately.

Man this is an annoying bug then! I just lost about 4 hours of my game and may have to start again. But I'm put off by the thought that this could happen again.

Will check if the saveslot file is present.

It's good to make some backups of your save files anyway.

Better make backups, not a thing you need to do in the age of cloud saves, but this game lacks the most basic of things and the devs abandonned the game as one would expect.

It could be that Yuusha plays on a shared PC and someone else overwrote his save data by playing NieR on their account.

If you share your PC with someone and they played NieR: Automata on their account, you should try creating another PC user account and log into Steam under the new account. Steam should download your save data once you start up the game.

Thank you for the advice. But I don't think that anybody could log in to my account.
