Cypress Stick
I know it's a reference to DQ, but is that all it really is? It's stats seem low, and I don't see a use for it. Is it just a reference, without real use in combat, or am I missing something?

High crit rate, apparently.

I will try it later. It's level 4 bonus is that it gets a high crit rate. No idea how high. Seems to also change the in game models of the chests and how damage is displayed, from what I just read on the wiki.
I saw the crit rate, but just assumed it's crit rate is the same as others weapons with that skill. How much do crits do in this game? If they just do 2x damage it still doesn't seem worth it when some weapons have twice the damage right away

Perhaps it's because it's not meant to be an OP weapon? Maybe it's a joke weapon instead?

Which was my question, whether it's just a weapon meant to be a reference, or if it has actual use that I'm missing

From what I see, all of the weapons do adequate damage. None of them will make you hit like a wet noodle. Some are stronger. Some types are better for some situations and characters (gauntlets and spears are very good for 9S for example), but nothing on the weapons side seems made to be really OP. What makes your character OP for some modes eventually is level and chips. My opinion, though. May be wrong so if someone has better data on how weapons impact character performance, feel free to add.

Do damage to machines, damage numbers will be in Dragon Quest style numbers. Plus all chests become Dragon Quest chests.
I've used the cypress stick since I found it on first playthough all the way to third. its still a good weapon like any other weapon you got depending how you use it but I use it just for the dragon quest chest looks because the machine punk style chest seems to blend in some environments that I miss easily until I track back and thoroughly found them.

Awesome thing about Nier I found as a new fan... this dude loves games. castlevania, bullet hell, DQ, Resident Evil... like little side treats

Just add it as a crit bonus passive weapon you dont use to your secondary attack.

Not a fan of the hacking. So i like playing 2B/A2. I only ever use the quick attack and very rarely do heavy attacks. So for me the stick works as a secondary sword. The top most effect of every weapon applies so while i may not be using the stick it still gives me that +crit chance on the other weapon im using.

I combo the stick/pipe. Mainly using the pipe though, I crit often (becuase both weapons apply crit bonus), and stun frequently. Its not OP, its not uber massive dmg but it makes battles alot more fun and interesting. Way more fun to get that surprise one shot fast kill rather than using big heavy slow weapons/spears.

Just got the weapon and this thread saved me from a major assplosion.
Not familiar with Dragon Quest so I got really frustrated after noticing seemingly low damage numbers and spending quite a while on precision jumping with 2B's butt pushing me off the columns, urghh. :steamsad:
