Options Greyyed Out
Hey,

I can't change any of the settings, there is no sound and it won't let me click on any of the options in the sound menu. I can change the graphics settings, but not much else.. uh.. what?

Start a new savefile, you can change all settings after the savefile is created and accessed. This is because most of the settings are saved to a config specific to the savefile, not a global config.

Some of the options don't become editable until you've selected to start a new game, or to continue an existing one. In the last dialog before the game actually starts, go to settings, and you should be able to edit everything.

Was this issue ever resolved? I have the same problem, and I have not found any resolution so far. I have created 2 Steam problem reports, and 1 Square Enix problem report, where each interaction ends by saying the problem is the other company's issue. I have encountered this problem in Windows 7, 8.1, and Windows 10, using different hardware hosts.

This problem of unselectable game options eventually creates a game-killing problem at the second stage of the game, when replaying as 9S. For some unknown reason, the game developer has chosen to interact with the game's Menu options mid-game, and the unselectable Sound options creates an infinite game loop - requiring Task Manager forced quit.

By the way, Square Enix concluded their support interaction by saying this problem does NOT occur with their stand-alone version (no Steam Services). They feel this problem is unique to Steam and its version. Steam's version will NOT run without Steam services, and they felt that something was happening in Steam's wrapping of this game.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem, appearing even with new game and new savefile?

I never played the game as I couldn't, this was so long ago that I forgot about it.

It is such a good game, we really need to keep pushing to get this problem resolved. The game is worth completing! Please create Steam and Square Enix problem reports (Steam's is more indirect, I had to use Installation/download problem report)...

By the way, Steam support pointed me to this forum topic during my latest problem report interaction, but they are not researching their game wrapper, still insisting that Square Enix must solve the problem.

The fix is creating or loading a save file. Really silly way to do settings in this day and age.
