Resistance vs. YorHa? [SPOILERS?]
I'm just wondering if they ever explain (or maybe I missed it...) what the Resistance is compared to YorHa?

They seem to be a different faction of Androids. How are they different than YorHa?

As far as I can tell once they retire a YoRHa android they stop supporting and leave them on earth with all the good YoRHa chip pulled out.

They explain later when you find out more about project yorha. I will spoil it below but its like major ultra super end of route C spoilers. The non spoiler TL:DR version is that yorha were new models created to better combat the machine lifeforms and protect the humans on the moon while a lot of the previous androids had been around from before yorha was formed.

The androids initially were supposed to protect humans before the aliens attacked. However, due to the failure of project gestalt, humans were wiped out before the aliens ever got to earth. Because of the low morale of the androids, some came up with project yorha, they set up a server on the moon to send "human" messages and spread the rumor that some humans managed to escape earth and live on the moon. This was of course a lie, humans had been dead for hundreds of years when the aliens arrived. The bunker was created and new androids were developed to be the yorha. These androids were made with black boxes which were just rewired machine cores instead of the normal process used to make androids.

All of yorha are essentially the same as the machine life froms you are fighting. The reason for this is that yorha was supposed to be destroyed all along after testing the new combat upgrades so that the link between the moon humans (which are fake) and the rest of the androids would be covered up. Because they were disposable the people making the yorha models found it more ethical to sacrifice machine lifeform androids than normal androids. Allowing war to go on forever. However, that too is sorta fuzzy for me because at some point the machine life froms decided that they could not continue to fulfill their objective of eliminating the enemy if they were to fully destroy the enemy. I think it was them that started project yorha? I'm a little confused here since the method of yorha's destruction was a backdoor allowing a virus from the machine lifefroms to infect them. Anyway, they introduced instability into their own network to hamper their effectiveness so they wouldn't defeat the androids which led to the development of human like personallities connected via the network aka N2, the red hologram girl.

Yorha is a unit of special forces, just one branch of the larger android army which is based in various satellites. The resistance consists of whatever androids remain fighting on Earth, probably remnants of failed invasions(there have been 6 major invasions launched from the satellites in the past), surviving androids from before the aliens such as Popola and Devola, scientists, and "civilian" androids. It's possible there's not room for more androids to live on the satellites, or maybe many androids simply prefer to live on Earth despite the danger.
