Curious why this is so popular.
I've noticed this game has been #1 on the top sellers list since it has come out. I watched the trailers when it was in the "upcoming" games list and just thought the game looked awful and bizzare.

It looks like a little under dressed blindfolded school girl with giant floating swords on her back , easily destroying giant 10 ton mobs with rapid jerky japanatronic manuevers that defy the laws of physics.

I guess I never played the first game, so I don't understand the appeal, but when I saw the trailers, I laughed to myself how ridiculously terrible it looked. Seeing that it's been on the top seller list for some time now, it appears there are a lot of people like this sort of thing.

So what am I missing? There's obviously a lot of people willing to drop $60 on this game. What makes it so great?

The gameplay is top-notch, and you still get new things to do after one playthrough (the first ending isn't the endgame). The Soundtrack is from another world, one of the best I've heard in a video game. The characters are well writen and the story is very interesting, talking about life, machines having feelings like humans, philosophy, war, etc.

Don't stop because you don't like 2B's physical traits. It's not really a "funny game", there's a lot to learn from it.

Also, it has many genres mixed in a A-RPG. Shoot'em up, Hack'n Slash, Beat'em All, puzzles and reflexion game. For example.

Well, I like gameplay, but I think not everyone can enjoy it and it's not really perfect.

And yes, why can't 150 kilo android destroy robots (I don't think they are 10 ton except for Goliaths)? :D

Jim Sterling's review[www.thejimquisition.com] sums up everything that's great and that's not so great about this game very well in my opinion.
One of the best meta games ever made with the best soundtrack, atmosphere and story?

Honestly, if you don't like fantastical and bizarre elements in your games and want to stay with what you know and recognize. It's best not to buy this game. People buy this because they want something new and different, that's exactly the appeal.

Gameplay is fluid and feels rewarding as expected of Platinum Games.

Games directed by Yoko Taro have a fan following for being dark and unconventional.

Overall it is an enjoyable experience.

If one of the things that bothers you about games are characters performing feats of athletism that wouldn't be possible in the real world then you're going to be real short on choices.

I got solely because of two reasons, I greatly enjoyed metal gear revengeance which was made by platinum games(they made this game), and because it got very good reviews on consoles.

Don't dismiss this game as weeb trash until you sink some hours into it. I'll be honest, that's exactly what got me interested in the game. I thought it would be a fast hack and slash with some android booty, but what I got was much more than I was expecting.

The open world is a joy to explore and rich with atmosphere. The combat is fast, fluid, and you have a lot of customization options. The story of the game extends beyond the game itself, it will make you think about what it truly means to be human (if you are a fan of Final Fantasy IX it is similar to that). Overall its just a fantastic game, but if you can't suspend your disbelief then you aren't going to like it.

The whole time I've played the game it's sort of felt like playing the Legend of Zelda games I grew up playing. It has the same feel to it in my opinion.

The story is also pretty darn good. It's just the type of game we don't normally get on PC.

This game is more than a cool hack and slash game with sexy androids. This is actually a sensitive and provocative existential piece, that do more than just ask the meaning of life and human nature, but put to the test questions that seem to be taken out of a Soren Kierkegaard and Friedrich Nietzcsche studies, and the result is something tragic and beautiful.

Behind all the fan service and cool gameplay, all that is nothing more than the backdrop to something far deeper. This game is a labor of love, this is the best gameplay PlatinumGames ever made, the diversity of the gameplay, there are parts where you're playing a Bayonetta-like third person hack and slash, then the camera switches to a 2.5D Metroidvania sidescrolling platformer, then suddenly you're playing a top-view mecha twin-stick shooter bullet hell.

The story, the presentation, the narrative, and the geniality of Yoko Taro. The spectacular soundtrack by Keiichi Okabe. This game is a true masterpiece, it is far more than some lolita doll's ass, that becomes so superficial among the philosophical and dramatic profoundness.

Because despite the insane bugs that should not be in a release title the gameplay, story, music and style is fantastic.

I never understand the "schoolgirl/child" complaint. 2B has a grown woman's body. She in no way looks like a child. Being an android with phasing and anti-grav tech is manipulating not defying the laws of physics.

It's a true gamey game. The kind that we haven't really seen for a long time. The gameplay is varied, engaging and well executed.

It approaches philosophical questions without being shallow and self gratifying. The writing is top notch and doesn't get pretentious. The characters are more human, more real that those found in most games with actual humans in despite them mostly mimicking and barely understanding human behaviour.

While the visuals are basic compared to many titles today the art direction makes good use of what tools they have.

It's a fantastic game that everyone should own. However, Unless you are a fan of the series or really have the itch to play right away i cannot recommend anybody buy it right now. Wait until all the bugs are ironed out either by the devs or more likely the community. It's a real shame the conflict I feel here, The game is one of the best there is, possibly game of the year material but no dev deserves full sale price for a game that releases in this state

The game is just as close to being perfect as humanly possible. That's about as good as I can explain why are all the people willing to pay this kind of money on it.

Story is amazing, and game is actually pretty long. I'd say you can get ready for at least 50 hours just for the story driven experience. Of course it all depends on how fast you progress etc etc. But yes, there is plenty of main plot, and there still is fairly decent amount of side stuffs, and just fun things to do.
( Also, if something seems like an error, or bad writing, chances are it's the case at all, and you'll understand that later on ;) )

Gameplay itself very, very well made and gives huge variety to how you go about things. Also the gameplay styles are changing so you will have Hack & Slash segments, top down shooter segments, bullet hell segments, 2D side scroller segments, even asteroid made it's way there.

In my opinion Nier : Automata just might be the best game released in recent years.
