Follow these steps:
1. Download the latest Reshade from https://reshade.me/
2. Run the program and click on the "Select Game" option.
3. Navigate to and select your NieR Automata executable on the Steam folder.
4. Once selected, click on "Direct3D 10+" and let the program install all the files.
5. Download my preset at: https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/6993/
6. IMPORTANT: Once downloaded go ahead and rename it to wathever you want with the extension ".ini". Example: "MyPreset.ini"
7. Now take that preset and move/copy it to the Steam folder where the game's executable is.
8. Launch the game, press Shift + F2, follow the prompts and select the preset from the drop down list.
9. Continue following the prompts until the Preset goes live. Done!
that might be my issue
Thanks this worked out great, though I noticed when I make my own custom preset I have a red line on the top and bottom of my screen, any idea what that is?
When you download the preset, you should get the file "SweetFX_Settings_NieR- Automata_DG's Preset.txt"
Reshade 3.0 does not read shader files with the .txt extension, which is why you have to change the file's name to for example "MyPreset.ini"
Take a screenshot and post it here, you most likely changed a setting someplace.

you can see the red line above and below the screenshot, I don't think its anything major, though when I do run this mod my temps go up to 56-59 C , I was told to watch if it goes to 75-80, but then again running max settings is quite a load on PC, its also a GTX 1070.
Also added this screen shot since its easier to see the red line at the top http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/88223956356988894/02F271EBA4A436811C28F3E7499DAF30BE689991/
I'm using the sweetFX config but in game when I press scroll lock, nothing is happening. Haven't had this with other games. What did I goof?
It seems you have edited or ticked on some shaders that add too much contrast and or chromatic aberration. If it only happens with your preset then thats your answer. My suggestion, Press Shift + F2 and begin turning off effects until the lines go away and work your way around it.
well its not that bothersome...it won't damage anything right? I really like how the game looks with my preset, very photo realistic.
If you consider that photorealistic they you might want to get your eyes checked.
