Cleans up nice with Reshade

Here is a liink to my Reshade preset (with DoF disabled):
http://pastebin.com/uRnLjfSe

Most of the screenshots used to promote the game always looked drab and flat to me so I decided to see if it could be improved. Just did a quick test with Reshade adding a bunch off effects like Adaptive Sharpening, AO, DoF, AA, etc. and it looks much more vibrant and clear. For instance the rusted out cars really benefit from some AO and Adaptive Sharpening. These screenshots look slightly muted compared to what they look like on my screen during gameplay. Also performance is great on my rig: i7 6700K (overclocked to 4.6GHz), GTX 1080, 64GB RAM, 1TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD, yada, yada, yada...

hey Scrangos, MXAO seem doesn't work to me, I toggle that but nothing happens, can you tell me how to make it work right? and even the DoF seem doesn't work for me too, I'm using Reshade 3.0.6 too!
You probably have in game AA enabled. Reshade requires AA to be disabled in most games because it screws up the depth buffer which depth based shaders like DoF and AO rely on.

Wow thank you a lot! I made it!

Any tips to how it works? Re Shade keeps crashing my game, I have a gtx 1060 and an i7
You're not using another injector that uses dxgi.dll are you? For instance Kalaiden (I think that's his name) has a windowed borderless utility that uses a separate dxgi.dll that will conflict with Reshade.

The in game AA is awful anyway. I personally use a combination of SMAA and FXAA, at default settings, in Reshade for AA and it's MUCH better. You can see in my screenshots.

I've turned AA off ingame, do I need to do the same with AO?
Scrangos 18 MAR 2017 a las 12:29
I turned off the AO and AA ingame since i was going to use the reshade variants (SMAA and MXAO).

I thought of the key thing, but now the button prompts keep getting messed up due to reshade.

still i just tap a button when i need to watch a custcene, or use the map properly.

Some areas the mxao looks a bit weird, but on buildings and grass it looks amazing

edit: i think i fixed the key thing.. i rebound shift to something else, seems when the reshade prompt comes up the game keeps shift stuck and wont unstuck no matter what tricks i tried

I recently switched back to using the games own AO solution because it also adds a very decent post process AA. Just make sure to disable regular AA. I also disabled Reshade's MXAO shader because it was causing a lot of "bleed." It was also hurting performance too much now that I'm finally able to run natively at 3440x1440. I'd rather have full 21:9 support at 60fps than something that looks slightly better at 2560x1440.

IDK, but MXAO looks like crap on my game, its way too dark and IDK how to change the values. The AO in game is way better imo.

I find the best solution is to use in game AO and use Reshade for AA, that way you get no pop in glitches and good performance.

Btw, I tried a few presets that mess with the vibrancy/levels/colors and I do not recommend people use those, this game has a very deliberate art style that is uses which imo gets compromised by vibrant colors. It looked good at first but when I turned those off and played the game with default colors it was more immersive and unique.

MXAO's default strength is way too dark. I usually turn mine way down to either 0.50 or 0.75. You don't really need Rehade for AA if you're using the games AO because it adds a decent AA (at least at 3440x1440). To me the vanilla game just looks blown out and lacks contrast. I found that by lowering my brightness waaayy down I can get it to look decent.

I think the low contrast look is intentional, lots of old school anime films used similar coloring style. I think it works for this game and gives it a dream like/hazy look and helps to blend things together for more realism. Its kinda a dark game in terms of mood so it works in that sense too. I like it.

Figured I'd share my Reshade pics here and see what you guys thought of my custom Nier Profile. I know the game looks great as is, but I really wanted to let those colors shine a bit, as the vanilla version just seems a bit too washed out for my taste.

The latest version of FAR (0.1.3.) adds some lines in dxgi.ini to allow Reshade:
[Import.ReShade] Architecture=x64 Filename=ReShade64.dll Role=ThirdParty When=PlugIn
Just rename Reshade's dxgi.dll to ReShade64.dll
