PSA: Fix for video freeze on Nvidia cards [at least my GTX 1060]
So I finally found out how to solve the problem of video freezing [while sound and controls still work]. I only tested it for 50 minutes but it should work fine - before that I barely could reach the on foot section of the prologue.

So the problem is enabled DSR [Dynamic Super Resolution] in nVidia Control Panel [AFAIK it defaults to OFF so that's why this problem isn't that common on nvidia cards]

Thing is, it's a global setting that's disabled by default, but it's system wide - you can't change it on a per game basis, you have to remove all the DSR scaling factors.

The way it works is probably the reason why it broke the game - it hooks very very low in display processing [it creates fake resolutions to downsample from - so convincingly that it even adds them to windows desktop resolution menu]. It's always on even if you do not use those supersampled resolutions - best evidence is that your screen will flicker for a moment when you disable them - the same way it does during driver installation process.

It also explains why fullscreen Nier freeze video so well it blocked even Ctrl+Alt+Del and windows 10 Desktop Manager \ Task View [Win+Tab] - near driver level freeze will do that

tl;dr: Disable DSR in nVidia Control Panel [turn off all scaling factors]

Also force borderless windowed but you all probably know that by now.

Game is awesome, just please make those 30fps cutscenes at least work smoothly, k?

I have DSR on off to begin with. It can't be this. That said I haven't had the white screen happen for more than 2 hours now.

it worked for me, and with it on I sometimes froze in menu

do you have any idea how you got it to work or did it just suddenly start working

It's off by default so if you don't remember turning it on it's probably not that

but still:
Manage 3D Settings -> Global Settings tab - DSR - Factors - you have to deselect all active ones for it to turn off

I haven't done anything myself, so I still save like crazy.

thanks both of you and you are right it already off for me so i still have no idea what my problem is

My only guess is maybe any other thing that hooks really low into video driver, but I don't know what that could be - RTSS and similair are too high level probably so - any other downsampling solution might be responsible too though - gedosato etc. though they aren't always on like DSR

BTW. My system is i7 6700k + ASUS STRIX 1060 6GB + 16 GB DDR4 RAM @3Ghz XMP on

Game works fine at high at 1080p60 with no AA [had around 55 FPS with 2-4x, I hope patch or new drivers might help with that, might OC the card a bit and go back to 2x AA though]

My DSR is off too. The freezings happen randomly.

I do not even have DSR settings in my Nvidia control panel. Help. Please?
