There are no combos in this game. It's an upgraded combat system from the original NieR game which allows you to do only light and heavy attacks, dodge, and hold R1 to fire bullets from your pod and also holding heavy attack will do a charge attack with your secondary weapon equipped.
There are 4 different weapon types that each have their own light and heavy attacks.
Your pod can equip serveral different abilities also that allow you to use a 'special' attacks that have pretty big cooldowns but you can equip chips later to lower the cooldowns on those if you choose to do so.
looks pretty close tbh... though a lot more interesting than hack n slash with some gunplay like DMC

I was just trying to give more detail since I'd beaten the game but at the end of the day it really is just a spectacle fighter with great music.
the diffrence between DMC and Bayonetta is that DMC uses directional inputs for moves where as Bayonetta uses Light attack Heavy attack Dial combos there are some Directional imputs but not as prevalent as DMC.
Now when I say it's going to play like Bayonetta I mean Most of Platinum's games share common mechanics. If you get good at one Platinum game those skills will transfer over to another Platinum game. If your good at Bayo your going to be good at MGR, Wonderfull 101, Legend of Korra, Transformers Devastation, and very likely this game as well.
The biggest thing that makes Nier Automata stand out from the other Platinum games is the Bullet hell aspects with the pod.
Well that and whatever crazy things Yoko Taro decides to put in the game.
The pod abilties that I mentioned are in the video as well and have a huge cooldown which is why the player never shows combos on more than 1 enemy at a time and never attacking back to back enemies.
The game is FUN but it does not have an in-depth combat system at all. All players and reviewers have commented the same. It does LOOK nice though. Just doens't have an evolving combat system. It's the same from start to finish.
Yeah, sure. But you said there's no combos. Just saying there is. Looks to me that there's more to the combat judging from the vid.
