Is this getting censored in any way?
I remember the first game they even went so far as to change the protagonist to an entirely different person.

That's not censorship, that's just changing a character for a different audience. What they should have done is include both characters so we could freely switch. Silly devs.

As for Automata, I do not know.

I think they said in an interview that everyone will get the same game, so I'm pretty sure it's not censored at all.

I don't know, I for one thought the gruff old guy for Nier was an excellent change of pace. A father / daughter relationship is rare in gaming. I researched the anime kid he was originally, and am happy with the change.

How the hell is that "offensive"? I mean, the N64 was kinda meh, but I'm not actually disgusted by hearing it mentioned.

Actually they didn't change the main character for the western market. In Japan there are two different versions of the first NieR. One is called "NieR Gestalt", which is the version we got and the other one is called "NieR Replicant", which is the version with the younger main charakter, which is exclusive to Japan. So yeah there was no censorship, we just ended up only getting one of the two versions. As for censorship in NieR: Automata, there won't be any. Hope that clears the situation up a bit.

They just decided to release Gestalt over there too in case anyone wanted it instead, but they decided we weren't worth the same courtesy.

Huh? Well ok in that case forget i said anything. But looking back at it I think the change was actually for the better.
