how to crit

This is probably a stupid question. Im almost sure it must be a stupid question, because decades of gaming tell me this shouldnt be obscured from me.

So. How do I crit?

I've had Crit+weapons and crit+ chips, upgraded of both, but I never see anything happen.
Granted, the stupid tiny white damage text is a pain to see most of the time, but still. When I *can* pay attention to it and also make it out those small, white numbers never seem to get bigger than the weapons' standard ranges.

I'm not saying I need big red and yellow numbers, but some kind of feedback would help. Or if it's some pseudo-hidden mechanic (like mashing the left stick to Taunt) then wish theyd tell you somepalce.

What am I being dumb about and missing?

The numbers colors changes to a orangish, redish color and the hit sounds a little louder like a glass shattering.

It's easier to hear than see.

At 0:13 you can clearly see a critical of 3035 and at 0:25 two of 2980.
