That aside, chips don't matter in the Forest Colosseum because all chips are disabled, but for the Flooded and Desert Colosseums the Offensive Heal (paired with Deadly Heal or Auto-Heal), Resilience, and Melee Offense chips worked well until the Special Rank.
Desert Colosseum's Special Rank was all about killing as quickly as possible, so I used A2's berserk mode (sustained by constant heals from Offensive Heal and Deadly Heal) and the laser pod's basic attack (boosted by Ranged Offense).
Flooded Colosseum's Special Rank is intense as enemies are scaled up to level 130, unless you have a Melee Defense +8 and Max HP +8 almost everything will one-shot you; there's also going to be a lot of spammed ranged attacks, so having a set with Ranged Defense and Anti-Chain Damage that you can switch to for those sequences would be handy unless you are extremely confident in your dodging/jump floating skills. Note that I still haven't beat this one, so my suggestions here might not be the best.
You'd have to farm so much for chips anyway, you're better off just going to one of the infinite spawn areas and grinding levels until you get above 60, then you can try the rabbit fight.
In most battles you do not need certain type of chips, some of the them are quite fun to use.
Shock Wave is really handy, it gains a ranged effect to your weapon attack
Anti Chain Damage turns invincible after taking damage. survive combo attacks
Auto/Offensive/Deadly Heal these heal chips almost replace heal items in later game. Auto Heal is more general. Offensive Heal is really handy in A2's berserk mode, so is Deadly Heal.
Taunt Up is critical to some exteme challenges, such as Flooded City dlc EX rank. It significantly raise both you and your targets' attack power. It help you a lot to fight a hard boss, but it is also deadly to you the same time.
Overclock is really fun to use, and it could increase your dps.
Evade Range Up, Moving Speed Up, Item Scan, Auto-Collect Item helps in common game play.
EXP Gain Up, Drop Rate Up very useful if you are grinding or farming
Since this game is designed to be "easy", pick any chip you like could be enough most time.
By the way, pod program P Shield and M Shield seems not so usefull in common game, but they are almost necessary to Flooded City EX rank. They mgiht be also helpful to your Emil filght, although Emil fight could be finished without them.
There is no chip prevents an instant death, but A2 in berserk mode do the trick. Although A2 would always survive from berserk mode with 1 HP, Emil's ranged attack could be deadly in the recovery. So it could not be useful in this case.
Farming the least cost chip is really lengthy, you would easily reach lv 99 within the process.
Do the coliseums give you any money and loot then, other than the rewards you get at the end?
I can't remeber whether coliseums rewards money, since in post-game we have infinite money.
And coliseums do rewards special items. Such as the three dlc costumes are the rewards of corresponding challenges. There are also three sets of hair color and some other stuff.
There are also many +6 chips as reward, but it is said that the cost would be random, so it could be not so efficient to farm low cost chips there.
Oh, by finishing 6 normal challenges in each coliseums, the access to the dlc story part would be granted, which leads to the dlc ending.
IMO, the dlc coliseums are not for grinding or farming, they are more like series of challenges to enjoy. Each coliseum has unique theme, bringing out various styles of game play. Although there is no exp gain, but there is no death penalty either.
First time around I was not paying attention to the most efficient chips, and probably wasted quite a few spaces, but I had basically leveraged the auto-heal, auto-item and shockwave.
The second time around I only fused the diamond flagged (most efficient) chips, and sold all the inefficient chips. So I have a lot more chips that I can use. I still leverage the auto-heal and shockwave. Auto-item you need ever-so-rarely that it's more like if you still need it by end game, you're better off watching your own HP and manually using healing items.
