Does the story campaign help this game?

I tried the demo about last year. People told me the demo was out-of-date so maybe some complaints of mine were fixed. I love the theme and the presentation was great, but the shooting/guns seemed kind of weak and the wave-based survival weren't really that enjoyable to me.

I was considering trying the updated multiplayer but most people said the game was relatively dead. Is it? Is it feasible solo?
Is the campaign substantial? Is it made with love and involved or is it just repurposed multiplayer gameplay?

To answer your question, there has been changes made, but the gameplay is relatively the same. The PvE content has some new side objectives and stuff to do, but otherwise, the general gameplay is the same. The "Campaign" is more-or-less adding story cutscenes to provide context to each level. While charming in their own way, it doesn't provide much in making things feel all that different.

There's some new weapons, cosmetics, characters, new gamemodes for PvP and stuff like that, but it would probably be the same game you once new, just a bit more refined.

PvP has bots you can play with, expert bots are pretty competent and casual/regular bots are fun to blast away. They work on all gamemodes too.
Campaign, you can 100% it for sure with bots, I have diamond guides for all the maps except the apartment
