Why does the game need my "Real World Data"?
Seems a bit much just to have a time-of-day mechanic, doesn't it?

So what do you assume this "Real World Data" is?

It probably uses your IP to see if it would be night time where you are, thats about it. Except, it doesn't even work anymore. Go into challenges to get your night time level achievements.

Maybe not even your IP, probably just checks your systems timezone.

Would have been lovely if they had bothered to ask/tell people before launching the game. I turned off the feat first fthing first, but I also got out of the game since I was really pissed off about that (yes, I know, it's not the worst issue in the world, still irritating).

People should stop being paranoid about the wrong things. They are fetching your IP address to determine your rough location in order to adapt nighttime/daytime in the game. That's it. Every frigging website on the internet gets more information about you just from you opening it. And by the way, there is no technical possibility for anyone to infer your real address or name just from your IP, except for your ISP, and even they would have to look up their logs.

You're giving away way more personal information by using your Android smartphone or your Facebook account.

As Robin Williams once said "I would agree with you if you were right" but game information is already being used against players. There is even a new article about it today in the news you are welcome to check yourself. Have you played the game to know? I have and they certainly do not need that information based on the game play so far as I played.

Not everyone is comfortable with that. Personal information and people are the product on FB and other social media - extending this to gaming is a bridge too far. Not everyone uses FB anymore as people see the way the company reacts to the use of private data and how they use it against you.
To make it short:
Yes, I played the game, and they do need the information to do what they want, unless they ask you where you live right away, which would probably freak out even more players.

And no, I don't agree which Facebook's or Google's practices at all, I steer away from their products and services as far as I can. But that is far from detecting a simple IP address to implement a game feature. I mean c'mon...what do you think they are gonna do with that?!

The only reason it kinda freaked me out was that this is a game about the player cleaning up after murders so the perps don't get caught.
Something I imagine is illegal everywhere.
Then add in the somewhat common knowledge that the army develops games to help somehow train soldiers.
You're asking for my location because...?
It would've been much more acceptable to just have a day/night toggle.
