The real problem with Hello Neighbor.

I own Hello Neighbor on Xbox One, and holy crap is it boring. Puzzles are either a boring easy or a frustrating hard. The story is one of those "kids die we're so edgy" storylines that we've been getting since 2014. Let's not forget that the idea of Act 3/4 being a dream really makes it less scary. (I know FNAF 4 is also a dream but at least that's genuinely scary.)

The game also hasn't got a update since 2019.

let's not forget the bugs and glitches. The neighbor jumps around more than the House of Pain, he glitches through walls, and his "traps" are pathetic. The upgrades in Act 3 have the same problem as the puzzles: they're either underpowered or overpowered. I've both watched and made game clips where you set up objects in the very beginning of Act 3 before picking up the letter, and when you pick up the letter the cutscene appears very buggy.

Of course, there's the "trash can glitch."

The character of the "Neighbor" is okay, but the kills children plot + purple clothes + his backstory revolving around a child's death hints at something I don't want to say or I'll get insulted.

the YouTuber Easter eggs were unnecessary.

putting the modding tools on Epic Games Store but not Steam where Hello Neighbor is actually sold is really stupid.

the achievements are really dumb, considering you require a tutorial or hacks to get. If it weren't for YouTube, I would have no clue on how to get "Meet Joe Black" or the other achievements, speaking of which 99.9% of the achievements are based on going to out of bounds locations in Act 3.

the shadow man is a dumb idea. Why not keep it at the Neighbor? Then it would at least be a bit believable.

the books are far from awful. They're crap. They do nothing but give YouTubers to rant about.

Biggest problem? The game lost its horror feeling.

It now looks like a Pixar movie, the sounds are awful (especially the chase music), the character designs are trash and, to quote PewDiePie, "It's evolving, just backwards."

Here's my full response to your claim.


#1 Ice Scream, Granny, and all of these other Granny ripoffs are taken from Hello Neighbor. And people say it wasn't good. And Ice Scream had a children getting captured story line too. Nobody complains about that?

#2 The game hasn't gotten an update because they are putting out books, new games and updates for Secret Neighbor, and even producing a pilot for a TV show.

#3 Mind the glitches, don't use trash cans, and just pick up the letter at the beginning of Act 3.

#4 YouTuber Easter eggs were pretty stupid.

#5 The modding was a bit of a bust.

#6 The achievements could have more explanation, but going outside of the map is something people used to do in the older versions of Hello Neighbor. Something that they stuck with for the final game. And it gives off exploration.

#7 The Shadow Man called "The Thing" was a great idea in the alphas. It would have acted as Satan tormenting the Neighbor for his sins. Just wait until they pull something cool off with this character in the future.

#8 It shouldn't be called horror anymore, but a cartoony puzzler.

You're welcome, wait for Hello Neighbor 2 before making up your mind.

Ok so the problem is that your on XBox, which never gets updates, so the glitch where the neighbor goes through gates isn't on Steam.

Alright lemme just correct a couple of things the trash can flying glitch was in alpha 1 i mean it's so wacky who would fix that before making their alphas and he doesnt kill kids. he kidnapped his son so i guess that's not as correct? "youtube easter eggs were unnecessary" that's what a easter egg is i'm pretty sure they're cool little objects you dont need but just secrets, for your modding tools complaints is wrong because steam is a place for (mostly) buying games i mean on epic store it makes sense because epic games do own them. For the achievements it's not only hello neighbor that has weird achievements, Surgeon Simulator has a lot of those weird achievements i mean who'd think of throwing a heart at a bird? or pulling (i'm not political) trump's hair? For the shadow man it is a mistery game after all. I can't argue about the books because i didnt read them. The last one i kinda agree sadly since i love hello neighbor but i gotta agree it did lose it's horror feeling. Btw it might have not been updated since 2019 because they're working on a sequel. And i hope in hello neighbor 2 they bring back the creepiness

except Surgeon Simulator is meant to be weird. Hello Neighbor has been advertised as a horror game since the pre-alpha.

I thought this game was supposed to be a sort of stealth running game where you had to play around the IA that would learn from your action in a sort of roguelike experience, no idea how it turned out to be a story driven gane that can be finished in one minute
