That or to just use the keyboard like a normal person typing a document...that works for me at least.
I haven't played the game as my son asked me to get this game to 'share' and it is for him but later when I see just this, I truly will give my thanks and to you as well. With that being said, I can feel happy with hearing this and joyful that I 'may' have helped, even if indirectly, and I can be happy with that.
After reading the above and from various comments, both the good and the bad, I would mutch rather stay where I am at in my control scheme than change everything over to the still stupid, but more understandable now, standard for controls.
poor little snowflakes pinkies hurty rofl.
So let me get this straight. Your are, and I quoted above on how you claim to be over 60years old, an older man. I find this extremely odd as you are currently talking in a terminology of someone who is in school and there is no way that an older person would speak that way.
And besides, in the original Quake generic controls from a fresh install were much worst than even WASD and nobody and I mean nobody did those controls back in the day. But to go further, I find it hard that you have been playing Quake and the like for decades upon decades as the game Quake came out in the '90s.
With that, I should know as the "FPS" realm was started with the original Wolfenstein game and even a person entering their '40s would remember playing that game and the controversy of it being produced.
So no, you are almost certainly a simple child who erupts on anger and malice over a need to make 'Something' bigger. That item being a "Ego", "Self Worth", "Man-size" or the like but something is badly needing to be worked on upon your end.
If I were a betting person, I would wager on it beign all three listed above though.
There are only two choices for you, get used to it or move on, just like the odds are, you can only be a troll or complete idiot. You choose.
Thats just it, before I complained about it, it wasn't possible but I will give the game makers props and respect for changing it so now you can.
Actually its still not possible to rebind the WASD controls, there is a rebind menu now but you can change everything but WASD controls, Bit odd really.
Im same age group as you Bud and I used to struggle with WASD controls at first but one thing that helped me massively was getting a mechanical keyboard with interchangable keys so that the WASD keys are textured and molded so that W slopes up, A slopes left, D slopes right and S is sunk in. They're not cheap (usually) but its worth it, now I naturally place my fingers using the method someone else told you (middle finger on W etc)
Sad thing is, I may have to do just that but the whole thing is that I shouldn't have to. Yeah, I will probably go that way but it isn't so that I can 'become the norm' and all but more that I would have to playcate to those who program with the ideology that it is THEIR way only.
What makes it worst is that it is people like them who end up in politics and positions of power over those who are willing to see things in a different way and sure, maybe they are right or maybe I am right...it shouldn't matter BUT as a programmer, it truly shouldn't be a problem.
But instead of fixing this lack of a work ethic, they tend to be supported by idiots like earlier in this forum who would rather call someone who things other than them a moron over realising that BOTH people could be right.
I blame more of the idiots who programmed the game though, it was THEM who made this choice, not the idiots who follow them blindly. Still though, I find getting to "Q" and "Z" just as easy with my fingers in the Home Row than others who think that "Tab", "Cap Lock" and the like should be used instead.
I do bind those to keys, but stuff I almost never use but they are bound to something, what about THOSE keys now if my hand is scooted over, I not only have a truly awful feeling in my hand as the feeling of the keys in the wrong spot would be like 'wearing a left foot shoe on the right foot' and all. Sure it is possible, but it won't feel right whatsoever and you will most likely end up with blisters that a NORMAL person would work around to not have.
I don't care though, WASD is a dumbtruck control scheme rulled by dumbtruck people. It breaks the whole symatry of the hand and forces those who learned a better way to step backwards and become worst to support their stupidity.
I will learn how to use the, BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO. I CAN complain and be completely right when I call those who defend it as morons. However, I NEED to keep that opinion to myself as they are entitled to THEIR opion. But "God Forbid" (urg....) they are willing to accept YOU for YOUR way of thinking that is different from their own.
------still though, WASD is a dumbtruck way of controlling your character.
