No idea what to do

New player and I'm totally stumped.
Act 1. According to the first cutscene the key is on the upper floor.
I lloooked through all the drawers and cupboards in neighbour's house and what I suppose is mine. It doesn't seem to have keys or tools.
I tried climbing to the roof via the shelf on the side and stacking boxes. Strange physics. They easily fall which alerts the neighbour.
I drop some noise thingy through the small outside window in the room with two locks. Drives him crazy, but he doesn't go in. I smashed a window on the upper floor so he might leave a door open. Don't see any stairs, though, just the ladder on the outside.

I played lots of games. I have never felt so lost since Tale of Tales games.
Was this ever playtested or am I just dim?

You need to smash the windows above the main entrance to the house theres like a little shelf get on it put some boxes get trough the windows remove the painting in the room, jump trough the paintings hole in the room there will be a car key take it open his cars back get a magnet go to the back of the house use the magnet to get stuff lockpick....... get on the roof get in the room where the key was done

Thanks, but I already realised common sense doesn't get you far and you need to watch a video to get through.

Probably one of the games I least enjoyed playing through.
