As for OP's post, even though I don't like the community that much, this stood out from all of the other threads. Everyone cares about the secret because the developers intended it that way. They don't care about the AI because they want the secrets. They want the story. Not the game.
Besides, there is plenty of secrets in the game. Why ignore it for the AI?
Also, AI is not completely ignored. People complained it could not be tricked in Alpha 3, because it's far too intelligent.
Well, no, it you go back to the early Kickstarter, the secrets were the side note and the AI was important. The game is called Hello Neighbor not hello secrets lol.
The developers intended for the basement to not even be playable at first, but due to the community's itch for secrets they changed their minds. The basement is your goal, your reward, to satisfy your hunger while the main AI takes the stage.
Now about what you said about ignoring it, I never said you should, I say that people don't appreciate the original concept and features this game has to offer. Several youtubers have admitted that they don't care about the game and are only there for secrets, which saddens me. Hell, you said it yourself, nobody cares about the game and only the story, which is the problem.
It isn't even just the AI, nobody explores as the developers intend. Did you know that you can unscrew light bulbs? Or that the neighbor is able to be suspicious and watches you from his windows with no Chase music?
Simple things like this are what make the game so special, the AI, the mechanics, the open sandbox, the secrets. But all everybody wants to pay attention to is some hidden lore, like jesus, just go play FNAF.
People complained about the AI being too hard FOR secrets, the AI is getting in the way of their itch (which he's SUPPOSED to be doing) and people are upset over this.
So basically you said the main point of the game is "too good" at what it's supposed to be doing and that you and others don't care about the game at all and just want to satisfy your curiousity. Nice.
No ♥♥♥♥ sherlock.
A lot of people play games for the story. And with an interesting story, people want to know more. On one of the secrets, there is a school that says "luck You!" on the side where you can't see it on the map. They ARE focusing on the secrets.
They are also complaining about the neighbor because it is far to aggressive and cannot be tricked, which is being addressed in Alpha 4. THIS is what people are complaining about!
Also the Neighbor is hiding secrets. It's called Hello Neighbor, which the secrets are "known" by the Neighbor, thus, boom, Hello Secrets!
Another thing is that for a little bit that one of the people who care about the game is MatPat, playing Alpha 3. He stated that he hated that he felt like he was playing a platformer, not a stealth horror game.
Side note of above, just extra: I think there should be SOME platforming, but dedicated mechanics with wallrunning, ect, but only to make an awesome escape or solve a puzzle by jumping. When using those it should make the neighbor act like some glass broke, making sure it is only used when nessesary.
On the light bulb: Yes, I took out the light in the workshop of Alpha 2 (Room with red lock), but what use is it? The neighbor will notice it, and in the current build he will get curious if we change anything. He even responds to our flashlight now.
On the neighbor getting curious (Yes I am using that for the sake of spelling, bear with me.): Alpha 2 or Alpha 3? I've primarly been playing Alpha 2, since I am a GLORIOUS PC USER #PCMASTERRACE I like my games looking good, and this taskbar keeps blocking my view, hindering my enjoyment. Problem isn't in Alpha 2. So I can't respond to that.
And they did intend people to explore like that, evidence is, again, on the school saying "luck You!" on the side of the front.
Also your statement on them just play FNAF should go away. It's a worn out game. Coming from a guy who never played it, but knew it was popular.
Sidenote: You're a lot better than some people who are part of this community.
If the devs respond to this, we can hopefully get some anwsers on if they intended people to find the secrets.
EDITS SO FAR: Rewording to fix a point, added statement at end.
Again, going back to the Kickstarter, the game is listed specifically as NOT a horror game. It's more so a thriller with puzzles mixed in. Research is key.
They are transforming the game actively to fit the wants of secret thirsty youtubers. Why are you pretending as if I said that the current builds of the game weren't meant to be analyzed and secrets weren't meant to be found?
Yes, secrets are a part of the game and I've acknowledged this, my problem is that nobody cares about the GAME. Plenty people play games for story but if you didn't notice, literally EVERYBODY seems to be playing this because of it, even though this game is driven by, well, gameplay.
Some games are even made specifically for story and some are not.
I'll say this again, the developers are appealing to the wants of the community, you'll notice the Kickstarter page listed that this game is a thriller, not horror, it ends at the basement, the house would be randomly generated, multiplayer was a thing. What am I not seeing on this list.....
Oh, that's right. The entire game isn't based on breaking the game to satisfy your curiousity.
Yes, the developers left that Easter Egg in, but why is that? They want you to find the secrets, of course they do, but they also want you to actually PLAY the game as well. My issue is nobody gives a ♥♥♥♥ about the game, and as a person who values every aspect of it and loves it, I feel a bit confused.
About your statement on fnaf, a new game came out a few months back and the 4th installment of the series is still a huge mystery to everybody. Go play FNAF as in that story isn't complete, the latest installment is very recent, and the community could use the help.
Hell, if fnaf is just too old, then read a mystery book, you'll get your answers fairly quickly.
About Matpat: that's great. He actually enjoys the game and has valid criticism for it, what's your point there?
I love and appreciate the game and I have Alpha 3 criticism as well.
It's a waste, really. The developers have stated that they spent several years working on the AI only for a community full of people who won't even appreciate it to lean more towards some secrets and virtually transform the game. Years of work out the window it seems.
SIDE NOTE: Stacking boxes is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. The developers should know better than to assume what people did in the pre-alpha to get to where they weren't supposed to go should actually become a feature in the final game. It's silly. It's like if I put a key in a room with a door and threw somebody in that room and said that beause this person used the key on a wall, using keys on walls should be a common thing.
It's in Early Access, and people are thirsty for secrets. They want the anwsers before anyone else. They search the files, of course people are thirsty, there's a mystery to solve.
Also they made stacking boxes an option, but there is a switch in alpha 2 that makes the box stacking location an elevator. Intended solution was to hit the switch and get the keycard. Actual solution is a bunch of boxes.
Also my first reply isn't perfect, I tend to say things and mean one thing but people see it in another. I enjoyed playing against the AI in Alpha 2, and until I get the taskbar for Alpha 3 fixed, I will continue to enjoy.
And I said I never played FNAF. Don't plan to either. It just so happened that a game I was interested in has a similar fanbase to that game.
After the death of FNAF after the SL custom night, I'm pretty sure alot of things could go past it.
Also, another reason why you're wrong about the FNAF thing; FNAF is set out, not randomised and unpredictable, the games were never even that scary. Hello Neighbour will shoot high above and beyond FNAF.
This game's community is just made up of idiots trying to find the story while it's in alpha and not caring about the AI, the main point of the game, half the time.
If it would be bigger than FNAF, it would already be bigger than FNAF.
