Ultra wide/21:9 Aspect Ratio?
Hi,

First of all, thanks for the free upgrade. Second: Will 21:9 support be added?

I was surprised it wasn't available (and that the game defaulted to 5:4 1280x1024 on my 2560x1080 monitor)

+1

changing registry doesn't work

Bit annoying that it doesn't go up to 3440x1440. :(

Hey,

Yeah, it’s on our futures to-do list. Hoping at some point it’ll get added in

Just got this as a reply to an email I sent them, so it is at least on their radar and it will very likely be added in.

Don't think they were trying to give it a "cinematic" effect. I was surprised that the game defaulted to 1280x1024 on my 1280x1024 monitor because everybody forgets about us 5:4 players.

With help from the WSGF (Wide Screen Gaming Forum) we found a workaround.

You need a hex editor like HxD[mh-nexus.de] or whatever you prefer.

Then you open the Assembly-CSharp.dll file
(Can be found in steamapps\common\Dear Esther Landmark Edition\DearEsther_Data\Managed)
in the editor click ctrl+f to open the search bar
and search for these values 39 8E E3 3F
(make sure to change the data type from text string to hex values or it wont find anything)
and then replace them with these values CD 90 18 40 and click the save icon to save the changes.

HxD should have made a backup of the file by itself but if something get messed up you can delete the file and verify game cache to download a fresh version from steam :)

Now you can open the game but it will still have black bars, all you then need to do is put the game into windowed mode and then use Borderless Gaming [github.com] to make the game use the entire screen.
(You'll get a list of programs in BG. Just click on dear esther and click the box with the arrows going outwards)

Wow thank you for helping to find the workaround and posting about it here to us!

Beautiful!

Most of the credit goes to WSGF[www.wsgf.org] that told me about the fix and then i'll take credit for writing this small guide/tutorial :steamhappy:

thanks for the fix. I have to learn well the hex editing stuff because my skills don't go further than finding the hidden config files and editing them (it is not possible in this case)

Its actually not that hard when you learn the basics.

You can watch a video like this one to get the general idea on how to do it.

Just make sure you make a backup of the file your editing so you can go back to using that if something doesn't work :D:

Blast. Guess I'll hold off till this is supported. Bummer.

Ok, so I managed to fix it. The "CD 90 18 40" values are wrong and not meant for 21:9 resolutions. Use "60 E5 18 40" instead. Everything else is the same as in comment #8. So look for 39 8E E3 3F and change every instance to 60 E5 18 40, et voilà, true 21:9: https://imgur.com/a/NL1K1

hey thanks. I sent you a friend request.

I can play in 21:9 just fine with the original version on Source Engine.
Just using the 3440x1440 resolution listed under 16:9 ratio.

So Landmark currently offers less settings then the original.

I hope this will get fixed soon, a game with such a heavy focus on the landscape should be enjoyable with full panorama view.

Not really related, but can someone tell me if noclip 1 is available anywhere? I can´t open the console and I can´t find the config.
