May I ask, what is an HM?
Edit: Literally just got another 5 troll... freaking heck.
HM = herd management. That means, you don´t shoot every animal you see, but only certain levels.
I'm shooting 4's is that good?
To be honest, I don´t know if there is a developed "meta" about herd management with Caribou and Reindeer, but it´s the way I practice it.
So I managed to finally get a diamond but I got a reindeer instead, they're literally the same animal so unless you care about the name it shouldn't matter. I went to the Medved and farmed all along the coast at the top west portion of the map and they spawn like mad up there. I ran into more level 5's than I've ever encountered on the caribou map. I'd give that a shot, put a tent south of the mountain range where the ice forms a bridge across from the main land to that mountain (top west) and just keep going back to tent, sleeping, and going along that coast line. If you just get the biggest trophies from each spawn point along that whole stretch you won't have to worry about ruining any need zones.
Thanks for the info. I hunt yukon way more than Medved, but I will give this a try and see what happens
