Years later, still hunting for a diamond caribou/reindeer
Aight, looking for any tips to this. For years I have wiped medved and Yukon of all their reindeer and caribou multiple times. Every river, every lake, every drinking hour I have killed so stinking many. I have YET to see a diamond caribou or reindeer. I have found like 4 level 5s total but all were .3-.6 below the target and ever since that last Yukon wipe I haven't seen a single level 5. Am I doing this wrong?

Reindeer and Caribou are known for their trolling and not easy to get as diamonds. But I think I had a little more success with them, since I stopped shooting the 3s and started doing some HM.

May I ask, what is an HM?

Edit: Literally just got another 5 troll... freaking heck.

HM = herd management. That means, you don´t shoot every animal you see, but only certain levels.

To be honest, I don´t know if there is a developed "meta" about herd management with Caribou and Reindeer, but it´s the way I practice it.

welp,.. i dont know but have you killed any females? if yes that is gonna mess it up. keep it to males if the animal you're hunting max level is like 5 shoot all 3 and 4's if it's max level is a 9 shoot all 6 and up. if its max level is a 3, shoot all the 2's and up. do not ever kill a female. make sure you got a tent and some hunting stand ect to keep that pressure low. do not go for solo's always go for a group that has males AND females in it. next to that part it's all rng but this will help a bit

I was hoping this thread might help me as I am trying for a diamond caribou also, but I guess not. I have only ever seen two level 5's in 400 hrs of play and have harvested 100's of level 3s and 4s. It's even worse for elk on SRP. I have every lake mapped out with tents and check every drink time and have only ever seen 2 level 5 elk. I am beginning to think they just don't exist.

So I managed to finally get a diamond but I got a reindeer instead, they're literally the same animal so unless you care about the name it shouldn't matter. I went to the Medved and farmed all along the coast at the top west portion of the map and they spawn like mad up there. I ran into more level 5's than I've ever encountered on the caribou map. I'd give that a shot, put a tent south of the mountain range where the ice forms a bridge across from the main land to that mountain (top west) and just keep going back to tent, sleeping, and going along that coast line. If you just get the biggest trophies from each spawn point along that whole stretch you won't have to worry about ruining any need zones.

Thanks for the info. I hunt yukon way more than Medved, but I will give this a try and see what happens

It's a matter of RNG luck a bit, too. I got a diamond reindeer my 2nd or 3rd day hunting on medved, but then I've also shot over 5000 geese on hirsch, including several dozen lvl 5s, and still dont have a diamond goose.
