I am a beginnner, so i got a beginner tip.

First learn the basics of tracking, just the basics, when you got the basics down, get the bloodhound dlc. The dog doesn't make it easier by default, you still have to control it from spooking animals.

The dog does a couple of things, one being companionship wich i really like in such a solitary game, second it helps you rank up faster, and third once you master the dog and it is fully perked out, you got yourself a great assistant for the rest of your hunting journeys.

Flatten the grass when you found a nice a spot, works best on hill tops. Just walk around and stomp that ♥♥♥♥, then you can lie down flat with with your bino's or gun and have a good stakeout.

If you have trouble tracking live animals as a beginner, stick to tracking wounded animals only. If you got yourself a vital organ, you will always find the corpse.

Beginners... hear and shiver!!!

Just because its not a predator, doesn't mean it can't kill you.

I was hiding in the bushes and got ran over by a group of unsuspecting deer, i nearly died with only having a fraction of my health to cling on. Beware hooves are just as bad as claws.

Here's a tip for the sake of silliness...

If you think the game is not thrilling enough, just press play on the following link and let it roll on the background. go start up your game, hunting will never be the same.

I got few color recommendations.

inactive track - grey
active track - international orange
spotting outline - international orange
collectible outline - yellow

Grey stands out and is just present enough to be seen. International orange makes the tracks look like fire, looks cool and is very easy to spot. Before international orange, yellow is the most vibrant of all colors. it will help you spot artifacts.

TIP 1: change the colors of everything. do not keep default colors

TIP 2: see my guide for beginners

Use the environment. You can get on top of some big rocks and go prone, giving you elevation without the noise of setting up a tripod or tree stand. Just make sure your weapon is over the edge or above of the rock so you don't shoot into the hit box. You can crawl up on a log to get a bit of elevation to see better from ground level.

Tents (DLC): Gives access to store and garage. I always carry one on multiplayer, so I can quickly get a ATV out or if I need to top up on ammo.

Edit: I ran into a few players who didn't know this, so I thought it might be worth mentioning.

The 22lr (part of a DLC) is one of the most cost efficient guns in the game. It's a class 1 rifle though (Geese, rabbits, Turkey etc).

Edit: Ranger .243 soft-points bullets are free. but other then that, 22lr is the way to go, also small game go down quicker.

the way they setup the colors is annoying you have to change them for each map you go to, why not set them once and have them be that way across the whole game?

I use white for inactive, cyan for active track/outline and red for collectable and so far this works fine for me

Yukon snow is not constant so isn't an issue, the taiga map I don't play much I only got up to the point of getting Grankins shotgun and thats all I wanted from it (the sound is broke on taiga map currently as well)

Most maps need something like 7mm or .300 magnum if you have it, a gun which takes 30-06 ammo, .270 and a .22 for birds and rabbits of you're interested in that. If it's too heavy you'll have to prioritise.

All ammo, lures and equipment keep same mass no matter how many you load. For example 5 goose decoys same mass as 20 or whatever.

Have a look at Fandom to see if you can expecr moose, bison, water buffalo, bear or loin. If not leave 7mm and larger at home.

Don't underestimate birds and rabbits. They're worth serious XP and credits.

Get the extra carry capacity ability to use for guns or lures. Stay away from back packs.

In the begging concentrate on all perks and skills which make you less noisy and less visible.
