I think the wind does not affect the propagation of sound.
I have a good tactic for coyotes. I run in the designated area and when I hear the warning call I stop and slowly approach the place where the warning call came from. In the meantime, I'm calling with the jack rabbit caller. Lets try this trick
I have never called anything in with the jack rabbit caller. The deer distress caller works for bears. The jack rabbit caller is garbage because it does call in anything.
Being under the cover of a large bush or tree is advantageous, as their eyesight is quite keen. Keep an ear out for the telltale delicate sound of brush moving as the Coyote comes near, but especially be keen-eyed, as their small frames are hard to spot. Coyote tend to not come straight towards the source of the caller noise, instead preferring to circle around and approach from another angle. Keep this in mind when waiting for them.
