Long Range Setup
Lets be honest, after tracking down hundreds of animals only to take them out at 100m or less because of foilage blocking your view, you want to relax and take some nice long shots. I gather that setting up on lakes are probably the best means for getting a clear view at some nice 200-300m+ range shots. 375 is my longest shot and it took me hours of waiting/fast traveling :(

It is so much more gratifying when you get that nice 1 shot insta kill from long distance as compared to the 75m shot hellen keller could make.

Any tips/experiences/strategies/regions you like best?

The biggest lake on medved is a excellent long range hunting ground. Sometimes it even feels too easy because of the excelent views.

If you do not own medved layton lakes are your best bet. Especially the biggest one.

For medved, place a ⛺.

I find that the .243 shoots pretty much dead on up to 200m at the range. At 250m it drops about 2 rings (I'm assuming that equates to about 2" in the game..so if someone knows differently pls let me know). Then at 300m is drops about 9 rings. (This is with the given game zero without perks/skills). The .270 bullet drops more at 250m and the 7mm's drop is even more significant. I'd suggest anyone desiring to do some l-o-n-g range shooting visit the range in Hirsch before having a go at it with the various firearms available in the game. It could save you the agony of seeing that gold or diamond level animal you shot at turn into a bronze or silver when it hits the ground due to bullet drop.

For long range I always use the zeroing and figured out all the in-between shots for the different settings. I can't really see a use for the other perks as windage has 0 effect and the distance estimation is kinda uncessary after getting the rangefinder. Is the range at Hirsch glitched? I find my scope dancing a lot more there than when I'm out in the field when trying to stave off that last bit of scope sway. I'll start the predicition of the sway, start the breath hold, and the crosshairs just start to jump erraticly near the final seconds before firing. Don't know if anyone else has seen this.

There is a lake near jhonsdorf outpost in hirschfelden, go there and set up a blind or sit prone in the early morning, I have taken many red deer bulls with a gold rating there at 300+ yards, 7mm mag is best weapon for this.
Yeah lakes are best at this point or perhaps on top or side of a mountain looking down.

This shot here was from 470.63 M's out was from the top of a mountain to the base of the mountain.

One thing I wish they would add to this game though is swimming as sometimes on lakes or rivers you are on one side and shoot an animal on the other side and it takes forever to run around the lake or to find an area you can cross over the river so it makes sniping long range over these areas really inconvenient and wouldn't be that hard really to let the character swim as I know other games do that way if you kill an animal the other side you simply swim across and pick it up!

would be quite unrealistic though. no hunter is just gonna swim across with his clothes on and rifle in his backpack..

boat would be noice though.

I wonder why the .338 doesn't have enough penetration power for long range on moose.

286 meters and the polymer tip bullet stopped right before the heart.

Most likely because you hit it in the Brisket. There is a lot of bone up front which makes this type of shot pretty risky. Try a broadside shot the next time.

yeah agree with Pic its super easy to get a double lung shot from the side so it has penetration just have to target the animal properly.

Cause sometimes like on Lakes you find that perfect shot but it just happens alot of times to be across a dang river and you have to run quite a ways up or down river to find a crossing to harvest the animal. Is a pain if you knick the thing only to have to run around to find that out then have to run it down after!
