Progression
So recently bought this game and liking it so far. I just have trouble with how to 'advance' in the game. I hunted a lot already, did the few first missions, got a bit of cash but now i don't know how to progress.

I never hunted in my life before and don't know much about guns, how would i know what gun to purchase next for example? I keep unlocking stuff but i don't feel i have to purchase it all because most of it i won't ever use.

I hunted all the beginners stuff (roe deer, fallow deer, wild boar & red foxes), and i just stumbled upon my first red deer and the warden told me that it would be better to use a more powerful gun.

And last but not least, i bought the game with all the DLC including the siberia map. When am i ready to go there? I assume i need better equipment before starting that region, or is do-able for a starter?

Thanks in advance habibi's.

I had difficulty starting in the game too. Luckily there are a lot of guides on youtube and steam. I recommend looking some up.

For example there is in the guide section of the forum a post with maps on which all the locations of the animal populations in the beginner maps. That one i used a lot.

As for the guns. There are only a few guns that are actually good.
Most people use the 7mm for big animals or the 270.
I personally use the 7mm for big game and the starter rifle for small animals.

I reccomend to unlock the 7mm or a heavier gun if you want to hunt in medved. The main animal there is moose.

As for guides. Look up hunter101 (from mountainman games i believe) those guides are very usefull. And browse the guide section of the forum.

The where to aim guides here are very usefull too.

Hope this helps

Hej man, welcome to the hunter.
Ask for weapons: There are different kind of game. You can read the info about it in the codex there theyou will find different (weapon)classes of animals 1 / 2 / 3 ... each game requires a special weapon, so that you get the integrety bonus and will be successful in hunting. Small weapons are not good for big game. If you purchase amunition, there is a weapon class, wich is the same with game. Weapon class, game class e.g. for moose you need weapon class 3.5 or even 4. That means, that the weapon for moose ist 338, 7mm and of course (when huntung with arows) the red arrows. 620g I guess, so you have an integrety bonus about 100%. .. To proceed in the game do the following, fullfill the missions, explore the areas, discover the questensmarks and build the highstands and visit the outlookpoints, gather the outposts and of course hunt the animals down that's it. You gain experience points with everything you do. So you will proceed step by step... For the areas you might be able to visit any region you like. Hit the "M" button, to get the map and there hit the "H" button to choose the area. And if you like you are invited, to visit me at Layton Lake District, I do like to have guessts. So I wish you a happy hunting!!

Some great ways to spend your money is to get the 7mm as quick as you can and buy better optics (scopes, sights, and the rangefinder) and buy every caller that you have unlocked. Hunting is much easier if you can get the animals to come to you. If you have the money use the better ammo too (the ones with more penetration). Once you get all that stuff taken care of you can start trying out the other options. I have fun shooting all the different types of weapons, though the bows can be tricky to get the hang of. Just keep in mind that the starter gear is usually not that great so it can feel like a step down when buying a starter shotgun or pistol. Be sure to wait until the animal shows it's side to you so you can get the best possible shot and you will be able to eventually upgrade them too. I recommend carrying a variety of weapons so you can work on unlocking multiple things at the same time. The .357 is good for small deer and the small predators. The bow and shotgun work good on deer if you get them in close with callers. And I carry the 7mm for bigger animals.

Technically you can kill anything with just the starter rifle if you hit the spine, but if you miss a medium or larger animal or get a flesh wound it could destroy your consecutive harvest and integrity bonuses. So if you are not a great shot or prefer heart/lung shots the .270 definitely packs more of a punch. You really want the 7mm or .338 for the big game. Here is the general breakdown of what weapons work best for which animals. https://steamcommunity.com/app/518790/discussions/9/1290690926861337397/

You can hunt in any reserve at any time. They all have animals ranging from small to large. Personally I went to each one early on to do the starter missions for easy cash and xp and to check out the different animals and views. Most will tell you that the US is the easiest reserve to hunt in because of all the open areas and it just seems easier to find game there. The EU map is pretty good too since there are plenty of fields and other decent spots with good visibility, though there are plenty of areas with dense underbrush too. The Siberian map has some frozen water which makes it a great place to practice longs shots or sneaking up on animals, but it seems like trying to hunt in the wooded areas makes a lot of noise so you might want the skills which makes you quieter there, although those skills are great for all of the ranges. Also, you will want better rifles to take down the reindeer, moose, and bears there.

Just have fun and experiment and see what you like and what works for you.

HooCairs and ZaggiDK have a bunch of good YouTube videos if you want to look them up.
