If it helps: Turn away (don't look at the ducks) and eventually they will hit the water, float to you and you can retrieve them.
It's a super weird bug, but this worked for me.
I agree they spin when they get hit and fly a ways then just fall straight down. The birds need better animation for getting shot and fall. They could maybe add some feathers coming off instead of spinning like the old bird hunter game.
People have said about it a long time ago and nothing was ever changed. Sadly I don't think the devs care about bird hunting.
Admin this post has nothing to do with the bug where the ducks are forever falling.
I believe they are both related and show how wrong/broken the kill animation is.
That said. The best way to get the devs attention is to gather any and all info pertaining to this issue in one easy-to-find location so that maybe just maybe they will take notice and make some changes.
Hopefully (crosses fingers) when the waterfowl rework is done (no eta) both of these problems will no longer be an issue.
I don't know the technical details, but maybe lack of physics implementation or animation it seems like the AI just stops flying and going into falling motion while spinning.
