NO light.
That's exactly like real life. The tracks are not. They are a plus, a gimme. I like the fact that the tracks show up with night vision.
For twilight or head lamp use the regular scope. Like real life. Always carry the regular scope with you.

Oh, and yes, fog will affect night vision units, in real life. It's far worse during the twilight and while using a head light.

if you turn the lamp on you see nothing and this is ok
but with the fog issue its hard to believe that normal sight would be so much better as night vision ...
With fog, it's cold, so there is no heat, therefore no objects show through. Instead you see a white blob. The best idea is to wait for rain to clear the fog. Water is warmer so you can see through that. The rain is simply drops, not a mass.
but in general, night vision should show us more difference between normal sight (at night) and the night vision effect due to these disadvantages
