Here is the topic I made: https://steamcommunity.com/app/518790/discussions/2/3118147344419992395
When it comes to missions that require us to kill an animal inside a specified area only the first hit matters. Both yourself and the animal have to be inside the mission area when you first hit it. If it then runs off and leaves the mission area before it dies it's okay. You can even shoot it again if you have to despite the fact that neither one of you is inside the mission area anymore. I repeat...only the first hit matters.
One thing I have noticed is that you cannot rely entirely on the boundary shown on map when it comes to being inside a mission area. That thing can be 50 meters off. Walk until you get the msg stating that you've entered the mission area. I drop the way point marker at the spot then pick my shooting position or tripod further inside the mission area. That way I know for sure an animal responding to a call or lure is inside the mission area before I shoot it.
That mission took me a full day IRL. There are a couple groups of elk that sometimes wander within caller range of one of the hunting stands in the area. I had to spam the caller endlessly until a couple of them wandered within shooting distance. There was one group that showed up out the back window of the stand, so be aware to look that direction every so often.
Other maps with the same problem i noticed the animals in question will come right to the border on the map and stop - even when called. The worst one is lynx mission where you have to take a photo within 40 yards. Same problem, call him in to about 41 yards and then it will turn around and walk or run the other way. Doesn't matter whether sitting still or trying to creep up on it. I even tried chasing one down with the 4-wheeler but this map is full of hidden crash points when driving the 4-wheeler so it's a vain attempt to use it. It's way to fast to chase it down on foot. Worst of all it's part of the main mission.
