Layton Lakes Mission Animals No Longer Diamonds
Where did this happen? Layton Lakes

What happened?

1. Mr. Black: I wish I had taken screenshots but didn't think to at the time. On Mr. Black Part 2, I shot Mr. Black from ~50 meters with a double lung shot with the .50 Muzzleloader. The blood splatter was "no organs hit" and he ran for several hundred meters before he died. Initially, I assumed I had screwed up the shot, but on the harvest screen you could clearly see the double lung shot. However, the text said "no vitals hit" and recorded it as a flesh wound. I did not misinterpret the results; it was clearly a double lung shot but his vitals were not "vitals". The harvest rating was silver or bronze. He was definitely not a diamond.

2. End of the Season: The last Connors mission has you hunt a special bull elk near a lookout tower. AFAIK this animal has always been a diamond. I dropped him with a single shot to the heart, instant kill. In this case, the shot was recorded correctly as a heart shot but his rating was only gold. In addition, I've killed several elk over the max weight with an estimated trophy rating well above Diamond but they're always gold or silver and always score 50-100 points below the what the minimum spotting estimate is.

I have yet to see ANYONE post a diamond elk and agree with others that Elk are broken and cannot be diamonds since a few patches ago. If anyone has taken a diamond elk since the Smoking Barrels patch, I'd like to see it. That's not the patch that broke it but it's recent enough to prove that diamond elks are still possible. I don't think they are.

I found 5 non-mission diamonds in 157 hours. At ~1700 harvests.

Sadly, it is not unusual for an animal to actually score lower than the bottom of the TR shown when you tag it with the spot. I've encountered this on Caribou as well as Elk both before and after scoring 2.0 came out so I'm not sure it's due entirely to the most recent patch. btw..an animals weight no longer contributes (numerically) to an animals score. It's strictly the trophy rating (and passing all 4 areas of the harvest check). I wonder what weapon you used because if it was a shotgun with buckshot...that's been bugged for quite some time now.

Elk are broken right now and the max score you'll get from one is 344, you need 380 for diamond which is impossible. Buckshot is getting fixed in the next update, or so they say.

It was the new .50 Muzzleloader. I avoid buckshot because I've known about that bug for a while now. Thanks for confirming on the broken elk and letting me know about the max weight and TR estimate issue.

The Devs need to give a higher priority to fixing the elk. A broken animal in a hunting game is never good, but elk is one of my fav hunts & should be a crime.

The Roosevelt Elk are missing the inside spread measurement. According to the 19T Boone and Crocket scoring sheet this is one of 4 measurements that must be taken when properly scoring the animal.
