Virant .22LR Rifle aiming inaccurately with scope
When I aim the rifle with scope and point the European Hare, Within effective range 100 meters, I'm within 20 meters of the target, I found that the shooting was not accurate, There are flaws in this game design.

At that close range the point of impact will be high than your cross hair, so you have to aim below where you want the bullet to hit.

Ascent 1-4x24, Hyperion 4-8x42 rifle scope, approximately 20 to 30 meters. It has happened several times to me.

So we are dealing with point of impact and point of aim. The gun is default zeroed at 100 meters, in the game that means the point of impact at 100 meters will also be your point of aim, or where the cross hairs intersect. If the zero is 100m and you are aiming at something 150m away, the point of impact will be below the point of aim. (So if a target is at 150 meters, and you put the cross hairs on the bullseye the bullet will impact underneath the bullseye). Vice versa, if the zero is still 100m and you are aiming at something closer say 20-30 meters away the point of impact will be above the point of aim. Wherever your cross hair is at 30 meters the bullet will impact above it.

So, if you are shooting that close make sure you are aiming low on your target, or maybe even slightly under the target.

I recommend going to the shooting range in Hirschfelden to experiment with where the bullet impacts at different distances. It helps a great deal if you unlock the zeroing perk, that way you can adjust the rifle to have a zero of 75 meters and you won't have to hold under the target as much.

Additionally if you are prone, the ground immediately in front of you likes to suck up bullets. I only shoot crouched or standing in game.

Check your zeroing (50-100-150 meters for the .22LR). If the target is small and you are very close, you may miss a relatively easy shot with wrong zeroing.

Agreed with what you wrote, except for a small correction, the .22 LR rifle should have a zero of around 50 m. Zero is @~50 m for 4x, 8x and 16x scope and POI falls lower @100 m. In my drop tables I have 35 m = +1, 50 m = 0, 100 m = -7 (for the 16x scope).

Good catch, thanks!

Go to the archery range in PF. The targets are closer than those at Hirschfield. It's okay to use a rifle there.

All of these are good suggestions but I would make a different one. If I'm within 30m of the target I just pop off the scope and use the iron sights. If you have the perk that zooms in the iron sights when you hold your breath it's easier than compensating for the scope.

I recorded a video clip to show of shooting, This is indeed a problem for aiming inaccurately.

Your video gives an error.

tested this myself last night. i was popping rabbits no problem in Layton with the .22 rifle and the ascent and hyperion scopes. if they were closer than 30 or so meters like @yogisgoat said i'd remove the scope and shoot them. Had no issues at all, looks to me like user error.

The 22LR rifle has a default zeroing of 100m. As mentioned above that means the center of your scope will hit at 100 meters, so at 50, 40 or 30 you have to aim a little bit below that. From the video I can see that you do not have the Zeroing perk equipped, which means you can't change your default zeroing from 100 to 50, which would make the scope a bit easier to use at that distance.

It seems you aimed a "hare" too high and missed.
