I remember having this issue with an animal or 2 years ago where it was the same thing in the topic of this thread that it ran in to deep water after I shot it and died where I couldn't go to harvest it. So if it truly is possible for them to go in to deeper water and other areas we cannot it needs to be addressed by the developers. It makes the game very frustrating especially if and when it happens to a trophy sized animal.
It's not realistic that animals can go in deeper water than we can. Humans can swim!
A common reply I've found is the excuse in the devs favor that we can't swim in the game because guns don't do well in water. That is un-realistic because if something like this happened in real life we would drop anything not waterproof on land where it's safe and swim out to it. Me personally if this happened to me in real life I would go get my truck, drive there, swim a tow strap / rope / chain to it and drag it out.
IMO we should be able to go everywhere animals can go. Especially in water. This doesn't happen in real life where we can't get a game animal to bring it home because it's in water. It shouldn't happen in the game because of that and because it's extremely frustrating.
It's also frustrating that the character in the game can't jump or climb or even raise their arms above their head, as we would do in real life to carry our stuff across deep water to keep it dry.
