Lost progress | Save game reset

Hello Hunters,

Some players reported to us that they experienced a save game reset and lost their progress after a game crash and/or PC freeze. We are currently investigating this issue.

If you are affected by this and have lost your progress please let us know about the following:

• Did your game crash or did your whole PC freeze and had to be restarted?
  
• Did you lose all progress (level, money, perks, unlocks) or only parts of it?
  
• Can you remember where the crash happened (coordinates) and which action you were performing in the game (maybe using a caller or binoculars)?

Until we have a solution for the issue please make sure to make a copy of your save game folder every now and then. The default path for it is:

C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Avalanche Studios\theHunter Call of the Wild

You can just copy the folder called 'saves' to a different location and if your save game gets affected by this you copy it back. I know, it's not an elegant solution but for the time being it is the only way to fully protect your progress until we found a full solution for the problem.

This was pinned over a year ago and people are still losing their save games. Hundreds of hours that people are losing on a game and you are releasing DLC content? This needs to be fixed. Hopefully there is some progress being made on this issue and hopefully you will start to notify your player base (possibly on the Main Menu?) that ALL of their saved files for theHunter: Call of The Wild have a chance of becoming corrupted and the steps that they should take to prepare for that situation. I understand if you were to do that it would make your "full release" game look bad, but you all are doing a pretty knock-out job of that yourselves. Apologies for being so blunt but I know you all can see this issue is still happening and it is very pathetic.

they wont help. its pinned over a year ago.. people got this problem more and more.
i had contact with the support of the game itself and they basicly say.. sucks to be you we cant do anything. just wait and see what happens with the bug.

they wont give you the money back, steam wont undo the dlc purchase and the support page of the hunter is not helping nor aknowledge there mistake.

we wont get helped in this thing. if you got this bug.. then you lost your save game.. and you wont get it back. its iether leave the game or start over. because you wont get anything back.

Saved Game corruption is still a problem!

I know this has been an known issue for a long time, I am simply pointing out another case. I have over 300 hours of in game time saved and today I logged in to check out the updates and play a bit - welp the game deleted everything. All my trophies/scores/hunter profile. Any record of ingame progression via golds/diamonds etc.

Really disheartened - I wish there was a fix for this rather than letting a bug like this persist.

Think this just happend to me. I also noticed the first Dev post about this was over a year ago. So they have done nothing. What was once going to be a decent review on Steam is now going to be one hell of a kicking.

Right click on your desktop and select "New" -> "Text Document"

Windows basic text editor should open a new blank text file

Type this in a single line... (replace "Georg", me, with your user name and "Backup Game 3" with whatever file you want to save your game into.

Save the file with any name you want plus a dot and an extension "bat" for "batch file" (old dos command). It should look like

myBatchFileName.bat

(some people have their file extensions hidden by default. Make sure you have them visible by going into file explorer -> View and clicking on the "File Name Extension" option) Windows 10... windows xp had a similar option by different name I believe... but I may be wrong.

Then go to your document folder, Avalanche Studios folder, and create a new folder and rename it the same as you wrote on your batch file.

When you double-click your new batch file, it will copy the folders and files from theHunter COW into your backup folder.

You can do that every time after you play and no crash has occurred. Make sure you don't click it if a crash has occurred or you will wipe out your backup progress. In that case, manually copy your "saves" file back into "theHunter Call of the Wild" folder. The batch file has absolute addresses so you can save it any where and it will always copy the correct files (unless you wrote the wrong directories or folders)

If your new batch folder does not contain the "saves" folder, your firewall / antivirus is probably blocking your batch file. You will have to figure out how to unblock it if you want it to work.

My PC just crashed, I have lost 75 hours of gameplay, cannot continue my game, save corrupted. I was level 17. This have been an issue for players for a year so I have just read!!!!

well for me yes, my problem was a non exsistant information prompt/s but i think others are having different problems. Take Calvin 1969 above for instance. Why the game dosn't use multiple save slots is beyound me.
