Shot deer through head?
Im guessing this belongs in the bug section. I have shot a few deers spot on the head from a not too far away distance and each time they just flee. Does this game take wind into account? If not, then I don't understand how they could have survived clean shots straight to the head from pretty close distance. :/ Maybe somebody more experienced than me can enlighten me.

The game does take wind into account but it shouldn't have too much of an effect if you are using a rifle. It isn't advised to go for headshots because the bullet usually gets deflected off the skull. Lung/heart shots are the best for taking an animal down. Spine shots will also take the animal down quickly in this game but are frowned upon by most hunters.

Ok, thanks for your quick reply. I can understand that bullets can get deflected, but for a rifle bullet to get reflected from a relative close range when aiming for the head is, to me very strange. It makes no sense to me at all. IRL if you were to shoot a deer within 20 metres or so with a rifle and aiming STRAIGHT at the head, the deer would die instantly, wouldn't it? I thought this game was about realism. Maybe I was wrong :/

Headshots are frowned upon IRL too, as they often cause horrific damage without being lethal. The brain is small, and the skull can deflect bullets, so the chance of a headshot killing something is actually pretty low.

I didn't know that. Thanks for clarifying.

I found a bugged roe deer doe that was just standing still, allowed me to walk right up, so I shot it in the head from a distance of about 3 feet... it stumbled, then stood still again with it's head down. So I fired 10 more rounds into it at various points on the body, including 5 to the rib cage... then it finally darted off into the woods and didn't leave ANY tracks. Nice, devs. Real nice. Maybe for your next trick you can release a working game.

There's a limit to everything, you won't tell me that a 7MM wouldn't one shot an elk at 30 meters if you aim for the head.

There are a difference between headshots and brain shots

Depends on the penetration of your bullet into the brain how far the niamal will run with a diff caliber just the Mechanicsof the game

Dont shoot at any animals head just look how tiny the brain is...chance is youll just break his jaw which would not result in a kill but if you dont find it to end his suffering it would starve to death

I was taught IRL never take a headshot for 2 reasons. 1 the head shot will rarely drop an animal..they have very hard heads and 2 and more importantly the trophy on any of these animals IS the head and antlers
