COTW Keeps Crashing My Computer!
So I started playing COTW again after about a year, and twice after I alt tabbed out of the game (Which was in fullscreen), My computer turns off, then turns back on again. I did verify the files, I have no mods, and today I've been playing for about an hour, and my PC crashed again after I was following a bear...

Anybody know how to fix this? I don't get this issue with other big games on my PC like Killing Floor 2 or Planet Zoo...

Here are some of my PC specs, if it'll help.

CPU: Intel Core i7-12700

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti

RAM: 32 GB

And I've also noticed my PC gets rather hot while the game runs (Around 158-160 F).

The game is designed to run at 60 fps. Sometimes lowering the FOV setting on the game will halt a few crashes as will turning off global illumination. You'll get a faster response from the tech guys/gals at Avalanche by posting your info on their customer support site.

Try limiting your FPS. If this helps, you should check your power supply and your cooling system. There are tools for stress testing a PC's CPU and GPU. Your PC should run both on 100% simultaneously an a stable - though high - temperature without crashing.

I agree with Yuccasu, it sounds like an overheating issue. Like Woodyplank says, use the Nvidia control panel to limit the framerate to 60 fps and you'll find it runs much cooler. In a slow paced game like this 60 fps is plenty.

I was having the same problem with my system playing this game and when I limited the framerate to 60 my gpu temperature dropped from 78c to 52c. My system:

I7-10700k @ 4.8 Ghz, all cores
EVGA FTW3 RTX 3070
32 Gb Ballistix 3200 ddr4 ram
750W EVGA psu

I have limited by framerate to 60, and my temperature remained around 68c, but my computer still crashed at about an hour into gameplay. So GPU Temps aren't an issue...

In my old system I ended up having to set graphics to medium and turning off a number of individual settings (global illum, fog, heat waves, water reflection, FOV to 50 instead of 70 etc..) Moving my steam files to an SSD put the final answer to the problem enabling me to crank the graphics back up. I seem to recall reading that players with Windows 11 were having game crashes more often than those using windows 10. At one point the devs put out list of things we could do on our end to avoid/reduce crashes. I know for a fact that disabling the steam sync cloud while playing this game makes for a smoother ride. Don't know why that is, it just is.
