Technical Troubleshooting
Here you can find a list of steps to try out in order to troubleshoot issues with crashes (game and PC) as well as connection and performance problems. These points were able to fix issues for a number of players already.

This possible fix was found by player Slackard
Experiencing game crashes on start up issues?


Try and enable Screen Space Reflections. You can do this in the graphics settings in the main menu, in game menu or through the following method out of game:
C:\Users\USER\Documents\Avalanche Studios\theHunter Call of the Wild\Saves\settings\STEAMUSERID>settings.json then set "GraphicsSSReflection": 0 to 1

Make sure you are using the latest graphics driver:

Microsoft Visual C++

Keep Steam online, but disable the Steam cloud sync. via Properties -> Updates

Verify the integrity of the game cache:
  • Via Steam open your game library. Games/View Game Library
  • Open the games properties. Right click game title the Hunter Call of the Wild. Bottom of the menu click on Properties.
  • Select the LOCAL FILES tab and click on VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE...
  • Exit Steam, Reboot your machine and try launching a game session.

Errors with api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll

This error is mostly connected to the version of WinSDK. The correct version for theHunter: Call of the Wild is WinSDK-10.0.10586.0.0 which can be downloaded from Microsofts website: {HIVATKOZÁS TÖRÖLVE}

Performance and FPS issues on Laptops

If you are experiencing severe graphic issues or FPS drops on a Laptop please make sure that the game uses your graphics card and not the on-board graphics chipset as this will more than likely not be able to run the game properly. To find out how to check this for your individual machine please contact the manufacturer or seller of the laptop.

Misc
  • Turn off Steam overlay
  • Set the game to borderless windowed mode. You do so by right clicking the game in your library, opening the properties, then click on 'Set start perimeter' and type in /borderless there.
  • Turn down all visual effects and details in the game, play for a while and enable them again one by one and continue to monitor the stability.
  • If you are using multiple monitors please try and set it to single display mode.
  • Disable background programs for recording and screen capturing
  • Temporarily disable your antivirus software

  • On the keyboard, hold down the WINDOWS key and then hit R.
  • In the Run window, type MSINFO32 and then click OK.

I had same problem which not starting up.
once click the icon, synclonigzing... then never lunched (even in task manager nothing runs)

What Anti virus are you running?
Try starting from the .exe in Steam folder.

However error comes up "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). click OK to close the application.

By the way i was playing the classic before i am not sure that's the reason http://support.thehunter.com/hc/en-us can not create / login with the account i had for support.
So maybe i need to re-create e-mail account and different e-mail address to make it up I guess... I am looking forward that i do not need to create new e-mail just for this because I will forget soon for sure..

I trun off the Avast Anti virus, and also try to start direvt from
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\theHunterCotW\theHunterCotW_F.exe
However error comes up "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). click OK to close the application.

Then try to look for
C:\Users\USER\Documents\Avalanche Studios\theHunter Call of the Wild\Saves\settings\STEAMUSERID>settings.json
However the Avalanche Studios file it's self are not exits (maybe not created by system?)

And also try to set "start as Admin" however not works.

So what action can i try next?

Hi RamMack,

I got Geforce 1050Ti but yet still not going to start still.
I try everything i can try tho... please assist.
Because the issue is not starting at all, if the graphic low then as normally there will be indication of bug that is too low or something like "Can't Open file" will be mention. am i correct? What should i do.

Unusual problem here with key mapping. I do not use the standard "WSAD" keys for playing, I re-map the keys to "YHTU" ... the "Y" key i use to move forward, but pressing it brings up the menu, and there is no way to re-map that function. Is there a fix for this? or am I forever stuck using the antiquated WSAD system.
Being able to map the movement keys to the centre of the keyboard and having access to the entire keyboard with ease is how I setup EVERY single other game I play. Why does this game have to have the "Y" key permanently bound?
