Why 20 Gauge? Rabbits? 10 Gauge Please!!

Interesting that they introduced a 20 Gauge shotgun while at the same time introducing goose hunting. The two don't go together! 20 gauges are great for upland and rabbits and ducks under the right circumstances but have no place hunting big birds like geese. Developers please give us a 3 1/2" 10 Gauge pump shotgun!

A 20 gauge shotgun will more than take care of a goose... it'll take out a man, in the chest, no problem with bird shot.

if you think using a 20 gauge on a goose is being a responsible hunter think again, the shot may be the same size as a 12 gauge but far fewer of them. Bare minimun to take down a bird as big as a goose is a 16 gauge in my opinion. True, if you shot a man in the chest from 15 feet away a 20 gauge will kill him - a .410 will too. Geese are typically shot at 30+ yards.

Just done a quick Google search and found tons of people using a 20GA on geese at 30 yards or less and it seems pretty common. Not sure I'd feel comfortable with any other than a 12GA but it does appear pretty common to use a 20GA aswell.

Because i do not know: What's teh exact difference between the 12 and the 20 gauge? Only the amount of pellets? Or also the size?

It's the width of the shell... The larger the gauge the more narrow the shell is.

ya you can kill a bear with a .22 but I don't know of anyone who would want to get that close for it to be effective eye close. just because you can kill an animal doesn't mean you should use it example yes a .44 can kill a bear but most guides wont carry those they get the bear stopper .454 and a powerful rifle. I have known people use a .44 and die he shot and killed the bear in the end but died for having the wrong size was killed by a big kodiak bear he fired every round as the bear tore him up few the bullets hit vital areas but in the end had have gun more proper told by more experiance people use a bear stopper he may have lived. its called adrenaline bears have it and last thing you want is a bear keep attacking with his adrenaline going.

The article says you can take a deer at 200 yards with a 20 gauge slug... and a bear at 50 yards. The bear he took only took one slug with no follow up needed and only managed to get 40 yards from where the shot took place.

You believe everything you read on the internet? It would be a very lucky shot to even hit a deer at 200 yards with a 20 gauge slug and even more luck to hit a vital spot. I started hunting with a 20 gauge single shot and know what it can and cannot do. Hunting deer at 200 yards is something it cannot do. As for the bear at 50 yards, yes that is within the range (outer limit but within it) for possibly placing a shot properly but the penetrating power of the 20 gauge slug at that range is fairly low so I wouldn't anywhere near that bear after it gets hit.

Slugs arn't a ammunition choice I would ever use for reliable shot unless it was all I had during attack which case comes down to luck bears have speed and the power gain alot of ground and just takes one decent swipe and its over. I am sure there alot people had alot of luck during there attacks for one even under pressure like getting mauled, or shot at your basic survival instincts your gonna run or fight back if your able to. Also like galliard wouldn't buy everything you read example most close calls most people do more then one round when they shoot. when that adrenaline kicks in alot things happen example someone breaks into house you get your gun shoot them 6+ rounds later without realizing you shot that many times.

agreed but lead? Your area still allows lead shot?
