same problem exist with two people in a blind - one can bump the other completely out of the blind
I don't think it is related to dogs. The collision model gets my vote.
Tell your dog to lay down—or to sit. They generally stay put unless you get too far away, then they will revert to 'heeling' until they catch up. Solution: don't plant the dog then wander off for 100 meters or more. If I'm moving, my dog is in 'heel' mode. When I get to the area where I'm lining up shots, my dog is laying down before I move in. If I get bumped, it's my fault for not controlling my dog.
I have never lost a shot—and don't expect to—unless I forgot to mind my dog.
THIS exactly. Never missed a shot because of my dog. I always lay him down. He has pushed me off a cliff once. But that is another story. He got no treat for that.
How many times have I sat under a tree and the stupid "hunting" dog swarms around me and pushes me out of cover in full view.
It is also great when he runs from the side in front of you while sneaking and blocks your way into the next cover. Does he get out of the way when you walk into him? No, this "hunting" dog is more stupid than a sack of rice.

p.s.: yes, he have the order by feet...
I would prefer it if our character took priority and moved the dog rather the dog influencing us.
Anyone here own a hunting dog in real life?
I am interested to know how the dog react to gun fire in real life. In game, it do not react to the gun fire and seem no trained to stay low or stay away from the shooter.
In fact, the purpose of this dog is chasing blood. It do not need to walk ahead of the owner to join the hunt.
I heard some news about hunter shot a human accidentally. But never heard news about hunter shot his dog accidentally.
You have the option to put him/her back in the kennel if you do not want him with you.
Access any cache . At the bottom left you will see the dog and kennel . Click on it and you have the option to Kennel or set as active.
To the others, I agree. The bumping into you is really annoying.
Yesterday I stalked a grizzly and another grizzly literally appeared out of nowhere about 10 meters infront of me without being aware of me and when I was aiming with my bow the dog ran into me and pushed me aside.
I still was able to correct my aiming and drop the bear but that was the moment I decided to put him back into the kennel and not use him anymore.
Another time when I was stalking a grizzly the dog constantly moved between me and the grizzly which was very annoying. You can´t properly aim your bow when the dog is literally in your face.
He seems to not have any situational awareness and strolls around like he is searching for dog candy when there is a dangerous animal 10-15 meters infront of us and I hesitated using the whistle to let him lay down since I already had a spooked another animal before that one by whistling since it is so loud.
A Dev confirmed on a stream the whistle does not alert animals its just a command for the dog, same as the light at night. But the dog if close enough will spook animals.
But @OP next update is suppose to have a fix for this
This kind of proves my point that it´s not a good idea to take the dog with you when bowhunting.
