New rifle and pistol ideas
Just some ideas for some additional weaponry.

An over/under .22 and .410 gauge rifle, like a foldable survival rifle. Single shot, but very lightweight, like the Savage Model 42.

The .410 can also be upgraded since shells exist with both solid slugs, 000 buckshot, and No. 4 buckshot. This can make .410 shotguns more viable for class 2-3. On the subject of revolver rifles, there exist .44 magnum variants. However, it would be heavily advised that something of a block be put on someone trying to load the Magnifico with slug rounds and should have the player stick with birdshot or the .45 long.

I'd love to see more use of the .45 long. Maybe a rifle like the Rossi Circuit Judge that has a revolver-like cylinder that can fire both the .45 long as well as the .410 shot shell.

Next would be a .357 rifle, maybe like a Henry.

I'd love to see some older rifles as well, such as the American sniper rifle Springfield '03 and it already uses the 30-06 round, but could, perhaps, give the player a flatter trajectory. Lasty, the Kar98k. As just slightly longer than the MN1890 (Mosin Nagant), I'd imagine a 4-9 or even a 5-9 for balancing.

Anyways, a few ideas that came to me playing hunter Classic. The main goal is not to only maximize the use of different ammunitions, but to add just a little bit more variety, if not choice. Personally, I'd love to rock a MN1890 and a Kar98k. Throw in a little America with the SPringfield 03 or the M1.

Thoughts and please, no flaming.

Edit:

Some additions that have been brought up:
-single shot rifles like the rolling block and martini-henry
-semi-auto .223 (either an AR-pattern or a Mini-14)
-hammered coach gun
-10mm glock or similar (IRL its a fairly popular self-defense weapon in bear country)
-WWI/WWII bolt-actions like the Mauser 98 or Ross Rifle
-Winchester 1895 in 7.62x54R, .30-06, or .30-40 Krag
-SKS (for a while it was the “poor man’s deer rifle”)

The over/under .22/.410 sounds fun, but it would have to be single shot, so probably wouldn't see much use for ducks or geese.

We already have a pistol that loads .45 or .410

Problem with the revolver rifles in game is that they're going to be pretty limited in terms of penetration and effective range which is why almost nobody uses the .30-30 or .45-70 lever actions

Don't see the point of a Springfield '03. We already have two .30-06 variants.

Mosin Nagant and M1 are already in the game. They're part of the Smoking Barrels weapons pack. We already have side-by-side shotguns.

I appreciate the historical aspect of the SKS, but not sure what niche it would fill. It's a fairly underpowered round, and we already have the Mosin as an underperforming deer rifle.

10mm Glock, might be nice to have. There's a fairly big jump between the .357 and .44 mag that could use some stepping stones.

We could really use a class 1-2 rifle. I like the Ruger .204 bolt-action for that slot. Would give us a nice flat shooting small game rifle. We could also use a better 3-7 rifle than the Mosin. Could either downrate the 6.5 or make poly ammo for the Mosin though

I already know and freaking love the Magnifico revolver. The Springfield is really for kicks and giggles, I love wwII stuff.

I also mention the .410 and .45 long because I think they're under used and more options would allow them to be more appreciated. For me, the .45 provides that lightweight ability to take on not only mid-sized deer, but those foxes and coyotes.

And revolver rifles could fill the niche for 1-2 since their range can be reduced, but allow another method of firing the .45, .357, and even up to .44, considering that this ammo is already ingame.

In all honesty, I'm discouraged at how Hunter Classic has so many more rifles than COTW, and many of them even fire the same round. One example is the Drilling rifle firing the 9.3 and I find three other rifles that fire the same cartridge.

For me, weapons that add more options for the player are most important. Then you can add stuff that duplicates what we already have.

Considering the above, I think that a rifle for class 1 and class 2 animals would be great. Also, a buff to the .223's penetration. It's ridiculous how weak this rifle is. You might say that most weapons are underpowered in-game and you will be right, BUT it is much more pronounced in case of smaller calibres. A fox is not a hardy animal. At least let the .223 penetrate to the heart with no issues. It doesn't have to be powerful, but should be great for precision shooting. With the new animal class system in place, there is no risk of making guns like .223 overpowered, as it's no longer ethical to shoot big animals with it.

no, instead of WW" or war guns they should much more go with pure hunting weapons , especially older ones
Snail Rancher Jun 9, 2021 @ 2:38pm
I'm actually a bit tired of all the historical weapons we have now. And the new Mexico map will have yet another (EW's version of a Winchester Model 1897 trench gun so we can live out our WW1 or Pancho Villa fantasies I guess).

I don't mind them being in the game, but I'd like to see some more modern designs for a while.

A lot of older hunting rifles were sporterized milsurp rifles and alot of those came from the world wars. Personally I have two Krags, my friend has a mosin and my uncle has a Lee-Enfield. The .303 is already in the game as a sporter and I know alot of purists hate sporters but it really is more practical for hunting to have a sporter over a full length millitary configuration rifle. Personally I would like to see a .30-40 krag jorgensen and some form of german mauser sporter either in 7mm or 8mm mauser. A springfield .30-06 wouldn't be that useful since we already have a bolt action .30-06 and a garand.

anyway...they do a very bad job in gunnery here and therefore we do not really need another bad made rifle with even worse ammo statistics...... They definately should first improve the in game weapons to a more realistic shooting !!

Personally I percieve the lack of pistols is criminal. Give me a longslide 10mm auto or similar so there's a reason to use a handgun other than the .454.

Also an AR in .223 or another intermediate cartridge wouldn't be out of place, particularly since Armalite made the gun for the civilian sporting market (hunting and target shooting), it's just perceived as a military gun because colt got licensed production of lowers and then gave them the fun button (full auto select fire).

How many rifles do we need? We already have more than enough to cover everything and then some. I do agree with having a smaller rifle though. A 1-3 class rifle is needed badly, but that's honestly it.

i'd rather seen 'skins' for current guns we have to give them different and unique looks, especially for those of us who play multi.

Also can we get some Crossbow love? There is ONE in game. Can we get some more to give us crossbow hunters some options. Would LOVE to see a multi bolt crossbow added.

Have a good one :Bormin:

Know what might be fun for class 1-2? A nice quiet air rifle. Maybe a .25 or .30 cal PCP rifle?

having new content keeps people playing the game. new rifles are a part of that and there are going to be real hunters that play who can no longer hunt in real life due to medical reasons and if they used a 35 whelen or another rifle calibre in real life then they will want it in the game. and there are other old rounds that would be good to have in the game. and having options to switch from say 300 magnum to a 416 rigby to hunt lions. would be nice for options same go's for having more rifle options for coyotes and red foxes and jackals and lynx and bobcats which are coming into the game soon.

no disrespect but you said a whole lot of nothing and clearly didn't read my post.

I never said anything about not adding new content, quite the contrary... The only rifle that we really need that isn't covered is the 1-3 class, how many 4-8 rifles do we need?. There are way more rifles then any other type of weapon in this game.

people having medical issue I really have no idea what bearing that has in a game and what it has to do with this topic.. So because someone has medical issues IRL they are first in line for a new DLC gun they want? I don't understand this logic.

What about the people who hunt with Crossbows? We have ONE. ONE. yet we need more rifles in the game? which most cover 4-8. but hey, lets get another 4-8 rifle in the game, ..? guess that seems fair to you rifle users..

I'm all about more content, always have been always will be be, but it'd be nice if the content was even among all types of weapons and weapons for certain classes. Not just rifles, rifles, rifles.

I second this, but for me it's a 1-3 rifle (like a .17 HMR with an option for high velocity ammo) and more handguns. We only have revolvers right now (I know the .22 pistol exists but it is exclusively usable on class 1 animals so it doesn't pertain to what I'm talking about). I would like to see some automatic handguns, preferrably one in 10mm with damage comparable to the 44 with a class 4-8 rating to at least give us an option with advantages over the orbital hadron collider cannon of doom that is the .454 cassul. The thing is, it probably wouldn't be too much work to get one in the game since Classic has what is basically a wide frame 1911 chambered in 10mm that can be used on everything from whitetail deer to black bears and elk, so they could probably do a model port.

First of all, I'm happy to see some interest in this post. I was afraid it was going to go Necro before the month.

I think a .17 HMR is a bit small. I know people can use it on coyotes, but IRL I wouldn't feel comfortable using it. However, this is given that I have YET to even shoot a rabbit, something I'm looking forward to in September.

Secondaly, just because we already have a ton of rifles that for the 3-7 and 4-8 classes doesn't mean that maybe someone out there would like to use their favorite rifle. Classic has already so many rifles and they all mostly do the same species. It's more for flavor that bows to the player rather than "you have these rifles to choose from. Don't like them? Too bad."

I had wanted to mention the Lee-Einfield before, but someone said I had looked like a doofus. Thank you for bringing that up earlier. I personally would like to see more use from a more variety of weapons rather than so few. .22 Magnum could cover 1-2, perhaps. Because it is a different round then the LR, we could have certain rifles fire it. Or maybe even have that O/U trade-off: You have a break action .22 Magnum on the top and a .410 gauge shotshell on the bottom.

Keep on with the suggestions and ideas. I'm hoping the devs will eventually see this and think maybe we could use more flavor of rifles in the COTW game rather than feeding Classic. I like classic, though using the kar98 in COTW would be a dream for me. Not to mention watching you reload the .30-40 Krag with it's side mounted magazine.

Yes, I do think we need more handguns. originally, I was hoping to utilize the under used ammo like the .45 long. Perhaps use a rifle variation or something. A hand crossbow for small 1-2 or even 1-3 would be awesome too.
