They already spent a lot of time/energy getting x amount of diamonds, and then the x number became useless because of the stat bug. Simply removing the medal system, i assume, would make matters worse for these people.
That being said, I completely agree that the rating system could use a revamp/rework (the same goes for some other features such as terminal ballistics and weapon class rating, as well as inventory management, but that's not the point here).
For example, it never made sense to me that some animals have different difficulties tied to their diamond status individuals. The "level" of an animal is currently useless information unless you know what rating and medal it corresponds to.
-Like, a level 3 turkey is potentially a diamond, but a level 3 elk is trash. I don't get it.
The only solution I can think of in terms of the "inflated" value of diamond medals, is to add another medal between diamond and G.O. -Lets call it "Obsidian". Effectively people have still lost their "work" gathering diamonds, but the "obsidian" medal effectively becomes the new meta, the new diamond, giving medal-hunters something to go after.
Yes animals levels is another quite frankly dumb thing that aids in creating this horrible gameplay loop where you are just going around trying to get diamonds to spawn.
You see a level 3 elk you are just going to shot it and quickly claim it in an effort to get a diamond to spawn. Now if animal levels and rating badges werent a thing you would actually look at the animal, the antlers etc to try to estimate the scoring for yourself.
Like i said it would give animals more individuality. And it would make the game more rewarding when you do get a high scoring animal because you would know you picked out the right one.
Score estimations are another thing i would like to see get removed. You should have to estimate it yourself through experience and knowledge.
But i realize that im leaning heavily towards simulation now which the CotW team seems to be strictly against.
You are about to see what competition can do to move the unmovable.
Fingers crossed. ;)
