Are the programmers aware of how inaccurate the bullet ballistics are?
I am a real hunter. I have killed countless of big game animals. I clean and process all of my kills. I have observed first hand what different calibers and type of ammo with do to different animals. The impact ballistics in CoW are not correct at all, especially when it comes to the lighter rounds like the 223, 243, and 270.

Let me give you an example. Take this buck I shot with a .243 100gr Soft Point.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2445108996

This buck was a 230lb 11-point Whitetail buck. The shot was a broadside shot. The 100gr soft point 243 round went completely through this massive buck taking out both lungs and severing arteries to the heart. This is my preferred shot on deer as it absolutely assures a quick death to the animal and virtually eliminates any chance of the animal being wounded. I have taken down more then 50 deer with a 243 using standard soft point ammo, and not once had a wounded deer. In almost every case the bullet goes completely through the animal.

Now, in CoW, the first gun you start out with is the 243 Ranger with Soft Point ammo. In the game this ammo, is extremely weak and barley able to kill a deer. Most broadside shots are single lung only. The penetration level of the 243 soft point in the game is grossly under rated compared to real life 243 ammo. The same hold true for the 270 soft point which I have seen blow holes the size of a softball through Colorado elk, and which will destroy a normal sized white-tailed deer. I have cleaned 80lb White-tailed does that have been shot with a 270 soft point in the front shoulders. The wound path was so massive and bad that I pretty much had to discard both front shoulders. I personally will not shoot a white-tail with a 270 because I feel the level of meat loss is unethical. Nut in the game, the 270 soft point ammo is barely better then the 243 soft point.

So, I am wondering if the game programmers are of this and simply have designed the game this way to make it more challenging, or if they just have no clue about the real ballistics of these rounds and what they will do to animals?

Okay. I finally manage to drop a moose and an elk with the 7mm. Here is a screenshot of the moose.

As you can see this shot was a perfect heart shot, but the bullet only penetrated barely deep enough to hit the out edge of the lung. That is total crap. No wonder I can't kill anything.

Here is the elk I killed.

Same thing. Perfect heart shot, but the bullet barely penetrated the skin. A 7mm will blow a softball size hole through both sides of an elk. This is not right, and it did not use to be this way. They nerfed these guns. I used to have no problem at all dropping elk and moose with the 7mm.

I have the 338 and the 7mm and i feel the same way sometimes... The feeling its like be hunting with a .22

The big animals run hundreds of meters and the bullets don´t hurt enough,

Your screenshots show that you are using soft point bullets. Is that on purpose?
Lakel 2021 年 5 月 5 日 上午 9:12
Are you saying you normally killed Elk and Moose easily with 7mm soft point, or polymer? The problem of the 7mm not going anywhere is pretty obvious being you are using soft-point in those screenshots.

Personally never had any real luck using expansion ammo unless its on the lower end of a weapons class.

It's not real to the real gun. I'm not sure why the game thinks a soft point won't have penetration? It will expand but not to the point of not getting a pass through. All these one lung shots are ridiculous. The .243 will get a pass through on a deer. The 7mm mag will pass through anything. No matter what bullet you use.

Another news flash for the game maker. One lung shots rarely kill game. It will suffer but it will run for a long long distance and finally lay down and heal.

They should have consulted some hunters when they made this game. Gun/ammo makers too. They got a lot wrong.

I guess it balances out. The guns don't do enough damage but the game dies easier. Oh well.

My favourite gun in the game is the 7mm with the Hyperion 4-8x42. This gun goes everywhere with me . it will take down anything when you shoot the animal broadside and get a double lung shot at 150 too 200m . I have not noticed any difference after the update.
Moose to me are like rats on the reserves and are in abundance to shoot. I don`t shoot moose at all now because they always run. 100m out Broadside shot double lung and the chase begins with them, there built like tanks and they laugh at the 7mm now. I don`t get how you can drop a water buffalo within 20, 30m yet a moose will spit the bullet back at you, laugh and run for the hills. I don`t like moose especially the chocolate ones :).

Let's see.

Scratch Moose off the list.
Turcox 2021 年 5 月 5 日 上午 11:29
Another situation happens when you shoot 200 meters with 338 or 7mm and then you get close to the bleed and you realize that it was a superficial wound shot
xD
Lakel 2021 年 5 月 5 日 上午 11:46
Can safely say with the 30-06 every moose ive shot and not missed vitals, never made it more than 50 meters. Helps a lot to line up your shot
kubanskiloewe 2021 年 5 月 5 日 下午 12:16
hm, i think weapons have a bit degreased; the original ones !
I shoot elk and Bison now with the HEnry cal 10mm brass round much better; even without any scope option up to 100m. And Grizzly, well most fun with the Rhino Revolver thats for sure . This game is sadly a bit to simple when it comes in choosing weapons...always take the one with the biggest punch on the lowest class.

No. I started a new game and have not unlocked the Poly ammo for the 7mm yet. But before the update I was dropping moose in their tracks with the 270 polys, and after the update, I have not been able to kill a single one. I always do heart shots and never had a problem with the 270 poly penetrating to the heart on a straight-on shot. After the update, I shot like ten moose and made perfect shots, and not one of them died. So I upgraded to the 7mm, and am getting worst results out of it than I was with the 270.

It just seems to me that the rifles are less effective after the update. These screenshots totally blew me away. I going back to just bow hunting until I unlock the poly ammo. Hopefully, it will be able to penetrate to the heart.

Both shots were with 7mm soft point ammo? I agree it's pretty game-y, but 7mm soft points have a lower penetration stat in game than even .243 polymer. It's been that way at least since I started playing the game. Unless you score a heart shot, .270 poly has always taken forever to drop moose and elk.

Myself and people I've hunted with have had elk hit broadside in the ribcage with both .30-06 and 7mm mag go 1/2 a mile or more after being shot with cheap old soft tip ammo. Their ribs are huge, and going through the ribcage can pancake the jacket. Sometimes the jacket will only go in a couple inches and the lead just sprays out in little bb-sized fragments. Sure those rounds usually drop animals within 100 yards, but sometimes you're out half the night trying to find them.

Yes but, it is way less. Take look at the shot on the elk at 45 yards. It barely pierced the skin. That is not normal. I have keeled moose with 243 soft points before. I know how the game works. This seems unusually bad.
The Texan Hunter 2021 年 5 月 5 日 下午 3:24
Well. It seems like things fixed themselves. I just took down five moose in a row with the 270. Most dropped on the spot.

My girl uses the 6.5mm and drops the big game (under 9) all day. its her go to weapon. absolutely loves it.. so yea idk.

as for me i use shotty and xbow and drop anything that moves near me. no issues. I'm actually having more fun with close range then taking those mile long shots and dealing with tracking that mess.

anyways, hope w/e is broke for you gets working again. :cozyspaceengineersc:
