Brown bears are actually bigger and tougher than lions.
It makes no sense for lions to be class 9... A brown bear has far more muscle mass, fat, and bone for a round to get through than a lion, which have been hunted successfully with 308 and 30.06. Even the largest lions on record weigh as much as a middling brown bear, yet for some reason they are treated like cape buffalo in the game.

You're right i think the same way but maybe they put them into class 9 for integrity and some balance reasons.Lions are most dangerous animal in the game and you can hunt them or defend yourself with .470 NE bullet (most powerfull cart). Even 9.3x74 can't give %100 quick kill with double lung shot.İmo they should level down lions to class 8 or 7 and brown bears to 8 so we can defend ourselves with a 12 ga slugs.

Brown bears should be at least an 8, while lions could easily be 7 or less. Ideally we would see ammo classes go up for the largest members of a species (a 500 pound small brown bear would be easier to kill than one approaching 1000 pounds), but I don't think we'll ever see that.

I believe the lions being class 9 is to reflect real-life regulations from the countries lions are hunted in where the minimum requirement is usually 375 Magnum as the minimum, but there are maybe 1 or 2 countries that allow calibers like the 338 but higher calibers are better with regards to how lions are

Regulations don't change the reality of physics... Not far from where I live, coastal black bears in North Carolina can weigh nearly 800 pounds (nearly twice the size of any lion) and have been taken quite reliably with 308 and 30-06. A vital shot with a polymer 30-06 (or other similar rounds in game) should have no trouble hitting the vitals of a lion and stopping it ethically.

In case anyone wants to look up that information themselves as I am far from the expert but I do learn interesting things from that website
But if anyone was to hunt a Lion IRL talk to your guide about what they think the suitable caliber is

Could make Lions, Brown & Grizzly Bear class 8

Brown bears should be a higher class period. A SMALL adult male brown bear is twice the weight of a large lion. If you look at their skeletons and muscle mass, it's not even close, it's like comparing a heavyweight boxer to a lightweight boxer.

I am enjoying this discussion so far I have to say
first link did say 30-06 is usable on lion but may not stop a charging lion

In reality it also depends on the hunter

Cant deny that in game, its also usable in all 6 continents unless local laws either have caliber minimums (An example being most african countries that allow hunting) or areas that have a ban on rifles

even .470 doesn't stop charging lion in COTW....

The 454 in COTW can do the job, stopped a lioness from killing me outright (but that may be due to a perk i have)

30-06 has gotten people killed against brown bears after poor shot placement. However with good shot placement, it's going to have a HELL of a lot easier time reaching a lion's vitals than a brown bear's vitals. Meanwhile in this game, a massive brown bear is harder to drop quickly than a lion a third its weight...

Without being familiar with RL caliber regulations I am definitely with you that Grizzly and Brwon Bear are underrated in COTW, especially when compared to the lion. But this discussion could be extended further: Lion vs Cape Buffalo, Grizzly vs Black Bear vs Elk, Grey Wolf and Puma vs Iberian Wolf, Whitetail Deer vs Wild Boar, and a Hippo compared to all of them would probably fall into class 10. There are several animals in the game that do not seem to be correctly placed when considering muscle mass and/or temperament. Putting Lions in 9 just has some "Lion King" touch.
