But back to the ammo costs, once you start racking in groups of kills with a lever action rifle (Whitlock/Coachmate) or groups of heavy game kills, like bison (with something like the 7MM), ammo costs become pretty negligible. Even when hunting with friends in multiplayer recently where a lot of animals were commonly spooked, I made around 40-50k ish just hunting basic game.
But if you are really tight on money than shooting everything with as expensive ammunition as possible is not the best way to go.
Culling few does, shooting some rabbits or geese can help. Depends on what DLC you have - 30-06 means at least one. Thus use that muzzleloader or airgun that came with it from time to time.
Do not forget to do the missions - XP+money. And also checkt your DLC - i.e. Parque Fernando gives you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (equals free weapon) for .44 Revolver and .338 Rifle. Maybe you need XP to unlock the base ones to get them but these weapons themselves are free.
