The rabbits that tasted bad where old and normally wouldn't be cooked up because of the state of them.
I have had rabbits from the market that were nice but really tasted like chicken, the game taste of wild animals may be that same horrible taste that I had from them old rabbits, I don't know.
Like the majority of people that play this game, I am not a hunter in real life, but unlike the hunters that write posts I am not pretending that I have experience in hunting, I actually did go hunting once, the fact that I ended up eating old rabbits with lead shot throughout the meat is a sign of how much success I had on this hunting trip, I didn't have a tent full of every gun known to man in it, I had a crap 12 gauge pump action or an M1 with a small amount of ammo with it, that I ran out of while trying to hit one rabbit at 500 metres away.
There are always exceptions to generalisations but these exceptions are a rare compared to the general hunting behaviour, so when you tell me that you eat everything you kill while hunting changes nothing, you can go on and on about the ants you suck up after you accidentally step on, or about the road kill you say tastes so nice but it still won't change the fact that nature is better off without man kind around, I would prefer if hunters would play this game instead of hunting in real life, I have seen animals suffering after a bad shot by a skilled hunter, the animal didn't want to die no matter how much pain it was in so don't talk crap about doing old animals a favour, that is the worst justification I've heard yet, be honest with yourself and instead of trying to win some argument with me, try to get to the truth, because the truth is more important then our egos.
Aaaaaanyway . . .

Dove hunting would be a great addition, though I'd like a nice pump-action 20 ga. with a 5-shot tube. While we're at it, quail would be a lot of fun, too.

Also, how about sage grouse, spruce grouse, dusky grouse, or ruffled grouse (we call them "pine hens" around here). They have unique calls, and are pretty &@#! stealthy. They'll hide in their nests in the brush until you're very close and then, very loudly, fly up toward the trees. It scares the life out of you. It would really add to SRP to have dusky grouse suddenly pop up. We don't really have a map that would feature sage grouse, but we could use a good "high desert" map somewhere in Utah, Wyoming, Nevada, or especially Idaho anyway. Just sayin'. Idaho has some really beautiful, varied terrain and excellent hunting. Ernest Hemingway lived there for a reason.

"In real life their isn't any trade in squirrel pelts or with the tiny bit of meat from them so why would you want to shoot them?"

They taste great! Seriously, I've hunted and eaten many squirrels.

A squirrel is a rat with a pretty tail...they eat anything, including, if desperate enough, road kill. Eating them sounds disgusting.

My dad saved one from drowning this year. It had fallen into a half-full water barrel and was swimming like crazy in circles when it was discovered. He then pulled it out with a wooden board. It was a young red squirrel.
Endangered here in the UK, the greys are taking over. Give your Dad a pat on the back from me : :steamhappy:

Yes. I have read about grey squirrels in the UK. Here in Germany, red squirrels are still relatively common. I actually see them every day. Funny, nimble animals. But I have the impression that they are relatively small. At least subjectively smaller than I remember them from before. I don't think they are hunted here and as far as I know they are protected.

But as funny red goblins that scurry through Hirschfelden just for fun, I think they would be ideal. If you hunt, you don't just want to catch prey, you also want to enjoy nature, and squirrels are a great additional benefit.

The case is different with grey squirrels, which are an alien species. Or where they are native I would have no problem hunting them.
My sentiments entirely with regard to the Grey Squirels. Thanks for the reply.
Oh yeah, just noticed the post, yes very true, I live in Australia and we have heaps of possums, all different types, so I might of understood more if I remembered that you can get a good feed from some sorts of possums and nothing from other ones, Squirrels would be the same, yeah?
To my shame I was actually only thinking that their is only one Squirrel and thought of Squirrels as tinny little guys that I saw in some doco, but now I'm not sure if what I saw in my head is actually a Squirrel at all, I may be getting them mixed up with chipmunks LOL what are those little ones that have big puffed out cheeks when they have all the acorns stuffed in their mouths? they do it to get their food back home safely, so others don't pinch their winter stock.
I actually remembered that their are some bloody creepy looking possums, or something in America, they have all their young hanging off them while they hang from there tails and they have a fox like shaped mouth, with pointy teeth. YUK
I see small ring tailed possums, or I think their called that, anyway they are about the size of a rat but have big eyes and cute little faces, the pick up food in there little hands, they look like they could even have opposable thumbs like us, buy maybe not, anyway, I have also seen a couple of rats recently, they freak me out, they look like they have come right out of a New York storm water drain, with mean looking yellow teeth, my old cat ran from one, instead to one to play with, the rat seemed confident too, it didn't even run away from me, it actually kept eating the cats food for a while until I grabbed a plank of wood, then it walked off looking annoyed.
Weird how two animals around the same size can be treated so differently, I felt like I should take every thing I said back after seeing that, I wonder where those Gray Squirrels came from originally? If I could talk to the animals, like doctor do little, I'm sure that rat would of had a Jersey accent, and tell me too step off, or something, mean little thing.
I am totally on board with squirrels. Trying to get the right angle through the limbs for a shot brings back so many real life memories. Very excited with the idea!
If they bring in squirrels, just make sure we can headshot them. IMO the ONLY ethical way to shoot a squirrel is right between the running lights with a .22 or an air rifle. They die quick, and you don't waste any meat that way.
Having stumps around the blinds for ground squirrels and vermin to pop out of every now and then and give a chirp would be a nice pass time target for the long waits.
I am all for squirrels being added - and for head shots being the ideal way to shoot them. It is shame that they'll be ground fodder - it would be great if you could bark them. (Barking... missed shot, but the piece of bark they are holding gets blown loose and they come to earth quickly.)

Edit: Just for the record, I generally consider a squirrel to be more of a marksmanship challenge than a deer when properly done.
