I do like there is a penalty to wear a backpack, i only use it if im setting up a hunting spot and need to carry stuff. When i hunt i only carry what i need.

Maybe if you are running and have none of the sound reduction skills it will give you 3 red bars.

The backpacks are only intended for short use, not for using while hunting.

You might not be making as much noise as an ATV after all, the noise meter on the HUD only has a certain number of bars. I prefer to keep my noise down to 1 or 2 bars when I hunt and my carry weight down to 19.5 kg or lower.

When I side step it's at 2 red bars, Maybe be a bug then

The amount of things we can carry at 20 is already quite huge.. if you look more on the size of weapons then weight. (The visibility penalty is quite big too)
So I agree that there have to be a 'penalty' of carrying even more.

Take the biggest backpack, shove in some tents jump on the ATV and place the tents and blinds.

Then at the last tent you remove the backpack at the tent, select the weapons and lures needed, and fast travel back to one of the other tents, as raising a tent scares away everything.

No real reason to hunt with the added backpack capacity.

(It would be nice with 'visual only' backpacks that gave no extra space or penalties, but that is another thing entirely)

IMO they should at least eliminate the penalty for the mini pack. I always carry a tent & even w the pack mule perk, you cannot carry 3 full size weapons. As it stands, I am unable to come up w any use, even a short term one, for the backpacks. If you want to setup your map, just carry a tent, plop it at the 1st location, go inside & pick up another one, etc. Maybe they should eliminate the penalty for all of them, & lvl lock them at 40, 50, & 60. Don't buy them if you don't want to.

The weight/size of the tens at 6, while most blinds are at 3 (or 4?) makes every time one carry a tent, into a transportation only trip.
And as one tent have the same weight as 5 tents(!?!?) I rather just bite the bullet and take the ATV to place them in hard to reach areas.

if it would be Multiplayer.. i actually don't know how I would go about it.

The issue is that everyone has their own play style. Mine is to carry a tent, hunt on foot wherever you want, & when you quit that session, & are not near an outpost, plop your tent. Next session you spawn at that tent & continue where you left off. So carrying a tent for transportation purposes only doesn't work for me. I don't setup maps w 8 tents, & I don't do MP.

I used the ATV to 1st explore the maps, but after that it almost never comes out of the garage.

Also, you cannot pick up both the original tents that came w the DLC, & the ones you buy w in game money at the same time. They don't stack in your inventory.

If you have a skill point to spare there's a skill that increases your max carry weight by 15% (3Kg). Same as the smallest pack and no noise penalty.

I use the atv to open outposts and hunt from there I see more game when i don't use atv. If wind changes direction I go back and get atv to flank them stopping upwind about 300 yds and then stalking In. . I use a heavy pack and bring everything bow shot gun extra rifle and decoys I only use a bow rifle is only used to do side missions and to pick on ducks, useing a large pack does not seem to give me any problems with animals spooking i never run I do walk some and call alot , because I crawl a lot , I kill most animals lieing down .....kneeling gets me busted to many times. In the south American map. Kneeling does not seem to be a issue on the other maps as long as your in the bushes , The south American map seems a little harder animals seem to keep a little more distance away pumas are really hard to bring In close for a good bow shot . They average around 70 yard shots only twice have they been within forty five yards surprised the hell out of me . This map Is tougher than the others , I still have not tryed Africa yet....

don`t use the backpacks. they are useless like the ♥♥♥♥ from the pope.
you don`t need them.

It's that 'spare point' that costs too much. as in having to sacrifice 'Disturbed Vegetation' that is a last tier, so it needs 13 point in the Stalker-tree to be able to put the 14th point there.

If one can live without it,(I can't) 'Who's Deer' or a point in 'Tag' are also very tempting in the Ambush-Tree.

But as said above, everyone plays differently. I like tracking hunting, and the Dist. Veg. is the ultimate skill for me.

Maybe a special 'start where you last ended'-tent for ~1 weight/size would be a rather non exploitable middle-ground?

I have the perk, & it is one of the most useful ones for me. But, if you carry a tent, the perk is not quite enough for carrying 3 full size weapons w/o leaving some callers, scopes, etc behind.

One thing is to run around the park on a ATV making noise all over the place although some parks like the Africa Map seems to be needed for some. ( I imagine because of its vast openness ) On others such as the Layton Park, most multiplayer hosts, take away the access from their maps ( rightfully justifiable IMO )

But like someone reminded me here , its YOUR OPTION, to carry backpacks or not or to shoot a buffalo with a .22 versus the .470.. its your game choice.

EW's original intention ( I say original because at this point in time one does not know the reasons they do why they do things ) was to make this a game as close as possible to REAL
life hunting scenarios. So if we take that at face value unlike an ATV, carrying a backpack SHOULD NOT, hamper you in any way shape or form from making unnecessary noise in bagging your animal, but it seems in this game, it creates a negative for you.....?.. It is what it is!!
In real life where i would never hunt hunt with a pack pack but I do use a day pack alot. a pack pack would make to much noise thats why In real life you drop them when your close to target animal even your shoes while bow hunting.....
